there is no need for a 50 ton mbt!!

if u want a lighter tank for hilly areas,keep on using t-90??
wtf is their obsession with 50 tons?

Hey I'm not saying that we need or we do not need 50 tonnes .It is entirely upto the army personnel to decide it on the basis of the operational requirements.I was just mentioning that in case we need one it is possible to do it by removing the fourth crew member from arjun mk2 and use autoloader in mk3.
But i feel the army sees the requirement of a 50 tonne mbt .I got this notion from that defence-talk program in some punjabi channel which you had posted earlier because in that some experts were saying that arjun is best in deserts but in the plains a lighter 50 ton tank( T90 class) will be better and also that we need a light mbt for the mountains

I wouldn't say T 90S with the welded turret a tin can.And the T 90M uses the same Kanchan armor.But yes,the base level armor protection (excluding K5 ERA) is less than Arjun MkI as the later has greater LOS thickness (between 900-950 mm at 0 degree from turret center line axis or main gun axis).Besides,the crue safety is also lower on T 90 as it doesn't have isolated ammo compartment.
But despite all these,we have to remember at what context and situation IA went for T 90S.It was in the 2000 when Arjun MkI was no where near completion,PA was inducting good tanks like the T 80UDs and India was under technology denial.They need something to counter the PA T80s and only option available was the Russian T 90S.

FMBT based on Arjun MK3 ?? , Now i call that BS , MK-2 is 67 tonne monster , FMBT will be around 50 + tonne , So what do you think they will just strip the tank and come up with a FMBT ??

MK-3 will happen if Army places orders for more Arjun Tanks , MK-3 will carry minor improvements and upgrades over MK-2 ,

I guess FMBT will be based on stretched T-72 hull, with added pair of wheels and increased space between 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th wheel, a modified turret with blow out panels, very thick frontal armor, more sid armor and a gun which fires 10 to 12% longer rounds.

Something like Black eagle but with smaller turret; the tank I think will be around 18% larger compared to T-72

It can and it will. I don't think there is the same appetite for foreign procurements like this anymore. If the IAF have to justify why they want the PC-7 over the HTT-40 then I can't see the IA getting away with a foreign tank purchase now, not when the Arjun is already in service, the MK.2 is coming alon nicely and work on the Mk.3 will begin soon.


I highly doubt this news actually especially as it is from IDRW.


In fact the most recent news is quite the opposite- the IA is going for the Mk.3 as the FMBT and that they are preparing to order many more Mk.2s as well as support assets like BLTs built on the Arjun Chassis.
