A rover soft landing on Mars is way harder than making a simple light bulb. Only 2 countries have soft landed and there are numerous failures. This makes landing on the first attempt an astounding achievement.
After Edison patented the lightbulb, he sold the blueprints to the government as they were seeking a better lighting source as an alternate to kerosene lamps. It went into mass manufacturing a year later which means many people acquired the skills to produce a light bulb.
Thats not the essence of my reasoning. the pioneering technology is the one that is the most hardest, most time consuming and most cash consuming. After a technology has been developed then it is easier to recreate it as the knowledge disseminates. articles are published, reverse engineering etc etc. china didnt create a technology thats looks, function, work different from a rover. it followeed the rover tech
think about the 1st motorbike, or the first laptop, or the 1st car when it never existed before. no one can conjure up the exact design, functionality of it. even a country like india can make a car in 1st try. alot less tries than it took ford to make the first car.
Right now US just doesnt have a rover it also has a helicopter in mars. it took US alot of trial an error to develop butam sure china will follow and create their helicopter as that knowledge disseminates as wel
