Can an Chinese Person translate this for me?

LOL buddy. :P

On a serious note though, Cantonese is actually very close to ancient Chinese. It is one of the more conservative dialects.

We preserve a lot of old literary verbs in our spoken dialect, such as "飲" (drink) from "yum cha" (飲茶) and "食" (to eat) from "食飯". Whereas in Mandarin they would say "吃" to eat and "喝" to drink.

So in fact you could argue that Cantonese is one of the Chinese dialects that maintains the closest connnection to Middle Chinese and Old Chinese, and thus to Chinese heritage.

Though if I'm honest, I prefer the sound of Mandarin to my native tongue of Cantonese. :P I am one of those people who think that Mandarin should be the official language of Hong Kong instead of Cantonese.

Nonsense. we should maintain the dialects. it's part of our traditions and cultures. It's hard to believe that Contonese opera, sichuan opera, Kunqu, are played in Mandarin. impossible

Sure, you can maintain the dialect for cultural purposes.

But the official language should be Mandarin.

Shanghai people will speak Shanghainese at home, Guangdong people will speak Cantonese at home, etc. And when they do anything official they can speak Mandarin, and if they want to talk to people who don't understand their dialect, they can use Mandarin.

The Government is correct in making Mandarin the official national language. People can (and do) keep their native dialect even while using Mandarin and even English/French/Spanish/etc.

.
Anti-China does not alway mean pro-white people need to understand this at the get go.

There are people who don't "have the same feel" under Chinese rule, that dose not automatically branded them the running dog of the whites.

Been back to HK a few time after I left in 2000s there are people who don't like CY Leung, and there are people who don't like CCP rule, that does not mean they wanted to revert to British rule. I Fking hate the Brits too, that why I did not convert my BOC into full British citizenship, but I also don't like CCP and CY Leung, there are a lot of people like me in Hong Kong

That's the correct way of looking at things.

Hong Kong is a rich city, but it's not the first city state and won't be the last. In fact politically and militarily it lacks the punch that the German imperial cities, or even Venice had.

Hong Kong's true future lies with China, without China it is simply a little island of no significance. But even the most optimistic person won't say HK can be even a regional power, and much less great and super power.

So if a HK person has political ambitions, then it is much better to pursue those on the mainland than in HK. Soon that will go for businesses too.

Look at Taiwan, fisherman shot by Philippines, while our ships go right up to their shores and they can't do nothing. That's the power money can't buy.

Nice to know CD prefer Mandarin.
There must be some innovations in our language which lasting for thousands of years.
Cantonese the words and phrases may connect with acient middle-land but as a dialect its tone more linking with the locals in history I think.

Sorry, I know a LOT of Hong Kong people. And out of those people, I don't even know one single Mexican-Vietnamese like yourself.

That combination would be much more common in your own country of America.

If you just mean people who dislike the Government, then sure... there are obviously a lot of those.

Nothing wrong with hating the Government as long as you are still patriotic.

You're right. We never went for military tech or anything like that, even though we have about the same population as Israel, and a bigger economy then Israel as well.

There is no need. The Beijing Government handles everything to do with defence and foreign relations.

Hong Kong was never independent in history, we have always been a part of the Chinese civilization, even during the period of colonization, we always remained Chinese.

The responsibility for reviving the glory of Chinese civilization rests on the mainland, only the mainland has the political and economic scale to bring us back to the glory days. Whereas Hong Kong and Taiwan have populations only amounting to medium sized Chinese cities.

Hong Kong is too geographically close with Mainland China, no chance to get independent like Singapore. Instead of wasting time resisting CCP rule, why not accept the ground reality? The central government won't allow those white man lackey to run Hong Kong. If you don't satisfy with Hong Kong regime, just leave.

One should keep in mind who is the boss here.

Jhungary doesn't speak for us, according to his own story he is half Mexican and half Vietnamese.

Whereas the Hong Kong population is 95% Han Chinese.

Hell, I've never even seen a half Mexican half Vietnamese before.

And he says he left Hong Kong a decade ago anyway. He is America's problem now.

I think Hong kong people shall have their own opinions and ideas, we should respect their thoughts and life style. Lots of Hong Kong residents received too many negative implantation about mainland China under UK rule education system. First you should be an Chinese before you as a Hong Kongnese, any action against the motherland will be deemed as treason. I know there are lots of patriotic people like Chinese Dragon in Hong kong, they are always the mainstay of Hong Kong society.

Thanks buddy.

That's why I don't believe in the "One country two systems" policy. Hong Kong is part of the PRC so we should adopt the mainland system.

But luckily, the "One country two systems" policy will expire in a few decades. Then we can handle those traitors and corrupt officials who are living in our city.

Not so sure if he's half, at one point he said he's only 1/4 Chinese. Anyway if he has some issue with CCP that's his problem, same with other HongKongers who prefer British rule. Don't like it then leave, nobody is pointing a gun on their heads forcing them to stay on China's soil. They tend to forget they are Han Chinese in the first place. Before British rule i bet no HongKonger would hate their mainland brothers and now a group are licking whiteman's arse screaming for democracy.

Well, you don't really need to pull the "race card" every time you tryin to encounter my argument.

I don't really know what are you getting at, but race and nationality is 2 very different concept. Here, you can be ethnic Chinese and you can be American, the reverse is also true, well I can give you a pass when we are talking about Chinese, but when we are talking about the resident of HK? I don't think you ever understand the different.

In this case, Hannah Wilson is more of a Hong Kong resident you you or me are EVER going to be

And use, by saying WE, I mean people who dislike the government.

I never say anything about independent, many people hate their own government, does that mean they all support their county or city go independent? So any scotts who hate Cameron should alway go for Scottish independent if you say so?

Please be careful of what you say, I never said anything about independent, you did. If you have to put word into my mouth, you should at least be smarter next time.

Well to start I never said I am half Vietnamese and half Mexican, it's what CD convinenly brand me by isolate me form Chinese, I never echo what he said, I simply don't care what he said.

And CCP is not equal to Chinese rule by the way, CCP is for party, Chinese are for Chinese and if you don't like what I say, you can ignore me, nobody is pointing a gun at it head forcing you to hit the reply button, everyone entitle their own opinion. That is the beauty of international forum.

You have a funny interpretation of what I said, when did I say I represent what other Hong Kong resident say? I represent me. I don't think even CY Leung can represent all of Hong Kong and do you think any of us could? Unless you are my clone or vice versa, I don't ever think you can represent me or I can represent you, let alone all of Hong Kong.

You are really egolistic to the edge my friend.
