World Bank has predicted that China GDP will be 8.5% in 2021.

USA can't even controlled its runaway inflation.

Today the deputy US Sec of State can't even get a confirmation that Wang Ni will meet him at the G20.

Meeting Chinese President Xi looks like a mission impossible today.

Though I wouldn't call money spent on military wasted. It is the one area where America still has an edge over China and America is trying hard to put defense pressure on China by pressing the Taiwan issue. Taiwan is the only card America has to force an armed conflict. Problem for America is China knows this and has developed it's A2AD arsenals making an armed conflict close to mainland China unwinnable for America.
Also as the article points out, time is on China's side. Even America's military advantage is eroding fast. However, I don't see America just sitting back and let China take the #1 spot in the world. The next 10 years will be interesting.

With its defense budget at 1.3% of its expanding GDP, China is indeed very comfortable.

Even at this rate, by 2050 China will have a formidable naval force that will be almost twice the size of USN.

China is in fact very focus. PLA objective is to annihilate the named enemy completely that is USA if it dare to turn up in its backyard to threaten her.

Meanwhile the house of cards in USA is crumbling down and Taiwan's card is now rendered useless.

The dedollarisation is taking a massive toll on USA in the coming year. The crash is seen as inevitable.

Meanwhile USA needed a huge defense budget to maintain its 800 military and 200 biological laboratories aboard. Even a trillion won't be enough due to hyperinflation.

That is why she has little choice but to cut back on lots of projects including withdrawal from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, etc.

And most of all USA can't confront China alone and it needed allies. But her allies have their own vested interest and plans.
iMO the QUAD partnership will be shortlived like SEATO.

Japan and Australia may change its mind in the coming year e.g. Australia is due for a general election.

IMO only Japan has the reason and military's hardware to join the war with US to against China, even South Korea won't join. Not to mention the European countries have no actual benefit in this war, I can bet the sidekick UK won't join the war either when China invades Taiwan. Japan most capable SDF 2 Izumo-class multi-purpose destroyers converted into F-35B Aircraft Carriers don't even have an elevator.
The F-35B have very limited combat range.
So finally they still have to depend on their outdated F-15J to defend herself.

To face China in conflict over Taiwan may be more than what it bargain for.

I am not too optimistic about Japan Military might although once upon a time, the SDF Navy ia the strongest in Asia.

In recent year, China has more or less completely ignored USA?

Biden can't even arrange for a meeting between China President Xi and himself.

China’s advantage is in economic might. America’s advantage is in military might.

China trying to keep the competition in the economic sphere while America want to turn the competition to the military sphere.

China spending only 1.3% GDP on military is a big weakness. There is no benefit for China to spend so little. Can’t hide the strength any longer. That era is over. China is facing major military threats especially regards to Taiwan question and investing so little in military is not causing enough of a deterrence. Only thing that will deter these genocidal white supremacists is absolute military strength.

Atleast 3-4% of GDP should go to military. Minimal nuclear warheads has been proven to be another unwise policy. Americans will threaten China with nuclear blackmail. Only nuclear warhead parity will deter the Americans.

Only when the costs of all out war with China are unbearably high will the Americans be deterred. Only a large and survivable nuclear arsenal can achieve deterrence against the Americans.

America showed how they don’t even care about how many people die in their own country during COVID. They won’t care how many American soldiers die to defeat China’s challenge. The American elites are total warmongering power hungry psychopaths.

US warship was just chased out of Chinese territorial water. Why didn't US warship fired in retaliation if it is so invincible as it claimed over its News Media?
It is just PSYOP but it is backfiring as China has just learn US trick.

USA has descended to such as stage that China is beginning to treat USA leader like what they did to Japan PM Abe.
