You need to check your source. The F/A-18 is called the "Hornet" and was produced by McDonnell Douglas, it operates with the GE-404 engine. The Boeing F/A-18 E/F is the "Super Hornet", it is a larger airframe based on the design principles of the original hornet and operates with the GE-414 engine.

Im not talking about the fighter as a whole.... if both engines have same dimensions and need Zero structural changes, whats preventing it from replacing the engine?

Air intake size. Unless you wish for the Mark.1s to be somehow fitted with new intakes which would necessitate an over-all design modification it is not possible

So it just comes down to air intakes..... i love the way they redesigned Hornets air intake to a rectangular one... we could have them ofcourse with the assistance of the manufacturers, ie US... wont be that costly.

It will be costly, it will require an in-depth redesign AND it will require flight testing hours which will delay the product. The time for such an action has already passed, perhaps if we had taken this decision in 06-08. Regardless to day, the Tejas Mk.1 cannot operate with the GE-414, nor does it need to anyway, for the job its meant to do it will work just fine.

How much redesigning from Mk-1 has been done into making the Mk-2...

Will that be sufficient enough?

Simply elongating the fuselage is a complex enough venture, re-designing the air-intake is no mean feat either. We are talking about so many factors which end up being altered. To try and explain that in layman's language is not possible since concepts of are-ruling and drag coefficients do not make for generalist posts.

Oh bhai ja kar koi debit aur credit karoo....what are you on about ? Tujhe kiya pataa about things like the 'drag coefficient' ? :tsk:

.
how it is a logistical problem??? IAF is operation many kinds of fighter jets, each have their purpose.
Exactly. If you understand that much about air operations.
