Prime Minister David Cameron has conveyed UK’s disappointment to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina over the country’s January polls in which more than half of the constituencies went uncontested.

Hasina, on a three-day tour to the UK, met Cameron on Tuesday as the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on elimination of child marriage Bangladesh polls, millennium development goals and the contribution of the Bangladeshi diaspora here.

Following the meeting, a Downing Street spokesperson said, “The Prime Minister noted our disappointment over the January 2014 Bangladesh election with more than half of constituencies uncontested.”

“They agreed on the importance of an open society and political system in which democratic political participation and media freedoms are respected,” the spokesperson said.

The leaders also agreed to work together on post 2015 millennium development goals.

Both Hasina and Cameron lauded the important role of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the UK.

Western countries have criticised the polls that were boycotted by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party. The Awami League of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won a landslide in the election in which many constetuencies were uncontested.

Awami League sure does. Why else Awami League would use an excuse of conference for girls to go see British PM? No other heads of state went to that conference. Not to mention Awami foreign ministry statements. Boy o boy, sour grape all over again for Awami thugs.

Thank the Brit Bangladeshis to demonstrated many times outside downing st and BD embassy for camera to acknowledge this. We came in very large numbers...Esp the old chachas haha.

This is a major loss of face for Hasina unfortunately. To be called to London and then be told 'what's what' to her face...

It also looks like there is a general political consensus in UK on this issue as this article by an opposition MP suggests.
Thanks for posting a link to this article.

Note the shills trying to refute the information presented in the article and discredit this narrative. Except for one which is neutral all Bangladeshi comments look highly politicized in favor of a certain political party.
