Burning of Koran is CANCELLED

Tolerance triumphed over intolerance once again! I am glad that such a disgraceful act shall not be carried out.

.
I have a feeling this isn't the end of contraversy involving Islam in America. American siege mentality makes them see shadows everywhere.

.
Soooo....Now we have 'Death to Christians' as well as 'Death to America'. The reflex is predictable and reinforcing.

Hey just because you're paranoid doesn't mean no one is out to get you, but the media does have a tendency to gloss over real dangers to America in favours of the sensational.

. .
I think our Muslim friends have to keep in mind that most Americans are against such narrowmindedness. Many of my friends were outraged when they first heard the news and they are glad that such a disgraceful act won't be carried out. I sometimes think that such people tend to give America a bad name and it is unfortunate that they are often the most vocal group within the country.

Ahhh I think your friends are the tolerant sorts. Most people I think are more splite on the issue. As that recent pew poll shows a slim majority of Americans are opposed the 'ground zero' mosque and a lesser proportion ~38% I think are against Islam.

I really think Americans are ambiguous towards Islam. It is an inclusive society at its core but this generosity and openness has take a beating.

Check out post below yours!

Eh? You mean gambit's post? What of it?

From my understanding, he wants the Ground Zero mosque moved, and is going to New York to speak with Imam Rauf. If it isn't moved, then most likely he'll put the Quran burning back again.

It is true that most of my friends are very tolerant (I live in Austin, after all) but attacking other religion is considered taboo even in the most conservative cities. Religion/racial bashing will get you stigmatized very easily.

Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpayegani of Iran called this proposed Quran burning an 'inhumane' act. Riiiiighttt...Bury a woman into the ground, gather up a crowd and have them stone her to death, a community participated execution, is very 'humane'. This is not about America being 'paranoid'. This is about exposing the contrasts between the West and the muslim world.

He is only using the Ground Zero Mosque as an excuse. The truth is probably that he and his organization probably couldn't stand the heat any longer.

Sounds about right, especially when the darling of the army, the prophet Petraeus is against (for obvious and good military reasons).

Why is Austin a more tolerant than usual city? Does it have something to do with University of Texas at Austin being there?

Kasab too?

Let the sanity prevail and I sincerely hope that the pastor and group DO NOT burn the Quran.

The terrorist of 9/11 do not represent all Muslims but Quran does represent Muslims. Those terrorist believed in a certain fukced up ideology and belong to a certain group . I would request USA to blow the arses off of Al Qaida by all means and we are with them in it and I am thankful to the US forces for already doing it..... But burning Quran that is very close to the heart of every Muslim is NOT AT ALL a sane response.

Burning will not solve any purpose but will only irritate the majority of moderate Muslims who are already sick and tired of these terrorist bastards. I hate all terrorists with the core of my heart wherever they are BUT if you burn the book we believe in which has taught majority of us peace and respect all the way, then seriously what are you prove or gaining out of it ?

.
Cancel the burning as soon as possible or else I will be very mad at Christians.

I don't recall ever burning the Koran, nor had that idea ever crossed my mind, so don't get made.

Your statement equates to this: 'if suicide bombers don't stop killing innocent people than i will be mad a Muslims'.

Religious bashing - yes. Racial bashing - its still very prevalent - some overt, most covert! Though I personally have witnessed Islam bashing by a 'dude'.

One has to appreciate that most Americans are against this Koran burning by this idiotic 'pastor' and the Govt has stepped in by 'covertly' pressurizing that moron to call off his 'drama'.

One also has to appreciate the fact that the covert pressure applied by the govt on this particular individual is unconstitutional, but in the larger interest of sanity and peace, the govt went against the constitution.

And yet, people find excuses to bash Americans as insensitive morons. Tch tch.....:disagree:
