True, I feel ashame seeing the road condition of our 2nd largest city. Very few roads in Chattogram are in good quality or condition. I do not see any 8-12 lane roads, most of the roads has no accompanying footpath or very little of it. Road side condition are absolutely pathetic in most of the places. Road side dump, dust, mud, hawkers, numerous rickshaws, electric wire plexus made appalling look and very difficult to walk. Besides govt. I think the city administration are also a big failure in Chattogram. They can not even spend the city budget money. Every year, most of the budget spending remain unfulfilled and they just add those unspent money to next years city budget despite the pathetic condition of roads. They seems to be totally oblivious on how the city looks or how to alleviate the suffering of commuters and pedestrians.
The Chittagong city corporation (despite being second largest city) is run by amateurs. For that matter look at Rajshahi and observe how clean that city looks, owing to good governance. Chittagong needs a better group of people as city fathers (as professionals) to run their city using better governance by taking lessons from other developed cities their size. They are still in the 'regional city' mindset.
I remember talking to ABM Mohiuddin (Mayor) sometime back and he mentioned going to Tokyo every year at the invitation of Bangladeshi re-conditioned car exporters from Japan, now you make any guesses by using 2+2 what was the impetus of these trips. I don't want to bad mouth a dead guy during Ramadan. He also reportedly ran a mafia syndicate in the port city and collected 'toll' for every container going in and out of the port. What civilized nation allows this type of activity?
So these are the types of politicians that our PM appoints to that city, semi-educated goonda leaders, rabble rousers and ex-AL cadre folks, only qualification being that they be 'Chatigaiya'. What better governance do you expect from the likes of these folks?
