i have travelled too in the very 90s. and I have a total altogether different experience... I think back then it was a good service..

. . .
My mother remeber paying Rs. 14 for Lahore-Rawalpindi rail car.

The article dates back to 2006 from the Musharaf era.ha
the project must have hit a slag or more probably vanished into thin air or the mostest probabality is that the money ended in the swiss accounts.

So much for electing a corrupt President;man this nation needs to learn ALOT!

WELL last year i read an article about laying tracks for bullet train between Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Pune route .

Officials said : “Laying tracks for the bullet train will cost up to Rs250 crore per kilometre,” a top railway official said

That means nearly 500 crore for pakistan...seriously can Pakistan afford such huge amount in this hard times???

Bullet trains will be white elephants. Hope Indian railway does not fall for it.
It is not whether you can afford it, the question is whether you can make it profitable.

.
Pakistan government just likes to troll Pakistanis people every now and then with these bullet trains and metro rail claims. Someone was telling me most of the buses are run by oliticians, so they are never gonna let any mass transit take shape.

Why does everyone look for profitability in High Speed trains? Are our national airline carriers profitable? How much subsidy do our Oil PSUs get? What about our state road transport departments like BEST, DTC etc?

If we are willing to invest in those schemes, then why not High Speed railway which is:

1) Environmentally much more efficient than both road and airways
2) Safest mode of transportation, having lower percentage of fatal accidents than both roads and airways
3) Faster mode of travel (for distances less than 500 KM) because it doesn't required checkin and checkout time as required by airports.
4) Will boost tourism
5) Will help us decongest our metros, by developing new cities 100-200 KM (less than 1 hour) away from them.

etc. etc.

.
If properly planned bullet train in Pakistan will be profitable like hell.

Don't look at financial profitability, but economic profitability. Look at how bullet trains can help Pakistan strategically plan it's future, in terms of energy dependence, planning of new cities/real estate etc.

Yes.. this is what i called proper planning.

First Pakistan should try to make the existing railway profitable. For this there should be investment in improving the network all over the country.
