Free education is NOT free at all honey

Free health care is more than free consulting!

So do you want corruption in SL to remain as it is because we havent still hit the bottom in the list?

Also in all these countries there are mechanisms to expose the culprits and punish them which we lack!
In many countries in your list whenever corruption is exposed, they are punished under the law. Civil orgs and constitution and judiciary is strong for that! It is not so in SL. That is the biggest prob.

What is the point in learning history when one is living in the dark about the present?

Someone asked a name of a book to learn about SL history I think thats why he posted about this book

Didn't you see the quote? Also what's the point of present without having a knowledge of history?

. .
What is the average Sri Lankan's opinion on Indians and Hindus in general?

On average pretty positive I think, considering they are our cultural and geographical neighbors. Many people watch Bollywood :D

Fine with me. Actually I meant a different thing. That is a person should be aware of the current status in one’s country. As Azizam seems ignorant on that, that is why I said so. Otherwise I too encourage learning on history.

Didn't you see the quote? Also what's the point of present without having a knowledge of history?
Well sorry to disagree again, :D there is a point in having knowledge on present affairs because we live in it. More than history it is the present that affect us. Get the meaning of what I said and look into the meaning it conveys before swapping words in what I said.
Again I have no problem in learning history actually I do learn history and encourage others. What I said is it is more important to be more aware of present issues which you are pathetically ignorant of.
What is the point in learning history when one is living in the dark about the present

It provides context to what is happening now.
Social, gender. ethnic inequalities for example.
Hope that helped :)
Well I have nothing against learning history, as I said before. It is the total lack of understanding of SL ‘s present issues by many commenting here that made me to say so.
Of course history is very good in understanding those things.

Indeed. The education has now become a play thing of a certain class. I call it the "educational class"

Free health care is more than free consulting!

This is a direct result of selfishness of the Doctors and there subordinates.

So do you want corruption in SL to remain as it is because we havent still hit the bottom in the list?

No one can eradicate the corruption by 100%. Not even "Waiyma" can do it. What we can actually do is to become reach point where it is near perfect situation.

What is the point in learning history when one is living in the dark about the present?

What is the point of learning history? Dude history makes the future. We cannot make our future without learning about our past.

What is that class? Please elaborate!

This is the first time I heard about an educational class, was it educated class you wanted to mean? And how have they ruined education when we have a pristine white and pure gov handling education?

This is a direct result of selfishness of the Doctors and there subordinates.

Actually this is the direct result of government’s lack of funding for hospitals especially rural hospitals.

Because Gov and its idiotic supporters (not the ones like you) think building not used airports, doing Dayata kirula spending millions of Rs and maintaining loss making ventures is more important than funding gov hospitals, modernizing hospital management and supplying medicines.

Actually it is because of the doctors and the working crew that hospitals in SL are functioning at least to this level even when earning a very meager salary. They are the real people who do the job. Don’t insult them to whitewash your politicians!

No one can eradicate the corruption by 100%. Not even "Waiyma" can do it. What we can actually do is to become reach point where it is near perfect situation.

So ranking in the middle of the corruption list is your near perfect level? Where SL rank in corruption list doesn’t show corruption in SL is less it just show there are more corrupted countries in the world than us.

Kindly refer to COPE reports, loss making Mihin air, Sri Lankan air, 10% commission, Petroleum Corp, Power sectors. And look into affairs in SL cricket board.

Corruption doesn’t mean only pocketing money that belongs to SL, mismanagement and nepotism also falls under that.

What is the point of learning history? Dude history makes the future. We cannot make our future without learning about our past.

I am tired of explaining this to every Tom and Dick who read this thread. I have answered this before. Read it.

Of course we can’t forget past and make our future, remember today is tomorrow’s past. So that is why I said present is important too.

I wonder you guys do not pick my comments on COPE reports and many other things to discuss :D but only hangs on a comment about history that too none of you didn’t understand.

"Educated class" are as according to me is the people who comes from poorer backgrounds or with certain mentality who attained a degree thorough government universities selected by the notorious ALs.

These educated people in turn prohibits the education they received to fall into a hands of the "lesser people" as they like to call the other who are not able to get selected to learn what they could.

It is like the old days when the richer people tried to held on to the educational benefits by using their money. That system was changed unfortunately to only be used by the people who benefited from the downfall of the richer class.

Actually this is the direct result of government’s lack of funding for hospitals especially rural hospitals.

How many doctors are willing to work in rural hospitals? How many specialist are willing to go to those rural areas?

It is not the funding but the utter selfishness of the doctors and supporting staff. (This is not the case every time though.) (But few good doctors won't change the whole system.)

Because Gov and its idiotic supporters (not the ones like you) think building not used airports, doing Dayata kirula spending millions of Rs and maintaining loss making ventures is more important than funding gov hospitals, modernizing hospital management and supplying medicines.

It doesn't matter how much money is pumped into the system unless the system is functioning properly.

What do you think would happen if government punish some corrupt official in a hospital :-)et it be a doctor, nurse or a helper)? The whole generations of doctors, nurses and other associate staff will do strikes through out the whole island. What government would think of doing such a stupid thing of sacking a corrupt official? Your government mate?

Actually it is because of the doctors and the working crew that hospitals in SL are functioning at least to this level even when earning a very meager salary. They are the real people who do the job. Don’t insult them to whitewash your politicians!

This is the excuse every government employee make including the "Doctors". Let them be compared to the employees of the private sector who do more work in any fiscal year for far less salary and for far less benefits. Who in the world would get tax free cars in private sector?

Let's face it. It is so annoying for the doctors to hold on to their salary issue when they have been educated for almost free of cost to a degree that is worth 60 lacks in the market.

So ranking in the middle of the corruption list is your near perfect level? Where SL rank in corruption list doesn’t show corruption in SL is less it just show there are more corrupted countries in the world than us.

I do not think SL is better in corruption scale. We have to do more to be any good in this sector. But what I meant was that we cannot be 100% perfect. No country is and No country would be.

I wonder you guys do not pick my comments on COPE reports and many other things to discuss :D but only hangs on a comment about history that too none of you didn’t understand.

COPE is heavily mingled with politics. The opposition is using it against the government only to take the power for themselves. After that they behave just like the government and maybe the COPE version 2 may come out. Then the next opposition party will using against their ruling party.

This thing goes around like the wheel. If we want to finish it we have to go the core of the problem which is not just punishing the criminals in COPE report. (Which won't happen because of the monkey jumps specially in the business community.)

This is probably taking off like a rocket isn't it?

Dialog » eZ Cash

Pakistanis especially need to see the pricing tab! Just Rs. 5 to send money. Compare that to the exorbitant fees charged by our lot:

http://www.easypaisa.com.pk/index.php/en/mobile-account

upaisa and timepey are similar.

Also note that to sign up with dialog ezcash all you have to do

Do I have to open a Bank Account to get on eZ Cash?

No. All you have to dial #111# from your Dialog mobile and register

Over here you have to fill in a paper form because, you know, the telcos don't have a database of customer info they can refer to . Or maybe the honourable people at the SBP want to keep us bound and chained in the stone ages with their meddlesome regulations.

You are being overly negative. Who do you think can replace government? UNP that is struggling to hold itself together? As the other members posted, why don't you show us facts instead of stating your opinion? Want me you remind you of the paradise that existed before Satan (MR) came to power? These useless power struggles were always an obstacle for the development of the country. Our own people are the biggest enemies of the country.

The truth is Sri Lanka is developing like never fore. I agree on the part you said about our disillusioned pride. we have a long way to go instead of taking pride in every little thing but that doesn't mean you can disregard the progress made by the country in past 4 years. Please have a balanced opinion.

Airport expressway:

Sri Lanka's 26-km airport expressway - Colombo–Katunayake: Sri Lanka's 26-km airport expressway | The Economic Times

This is a good move because it used to take 1-1.5 hours to get from colombo to the airport. But I have to say the road looks a little narrow. The Indians on that site are suitably impressed, though.

The highway is planned to have three lanes each way from Colombo to Peliyagoda and two lanes each way, from Peliyagoda to Katunayake with the width ranging from 26 to 33.5 metres!

I guess this is pretty standard right? Also thanks for returning the thread to the topic :D

It could be wider. Build once and use for decades is what I say! For example Sharae faisal in Karachi is 4 lanes each way.

But remember Karachi will actually use all those lanes! Karachi has a population of 13 million, which is basically 75% of Sri Lanka. The people serviced by the CKE will be a few million at most! If I remember correctly reading the engineering report, all expressways in Sri Lanka are rated to carry traffic smoothly beyond 2030-2040! Sri Lanka doesn't have any significant population growth at the moment.
