Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the paramount representative body in the Sikh Panth, requested that the Sikhs not sing "Vande Mataram" in the schools and institutions on its centenary on Sept 7, 2006.[20] SGPC head, Avtar Singh Makkar, expressed concern that "imposing a song that reflected just one religion was bound to hurt the sentiments of religious minorities. The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has called singing of "Vande Mataram" against Sikh tenents[21] as the Sikhs sought "sarbat da bhala" (universal welfare) and did not believe in "devi and devta".[21] DSGMC head H. S. Sarna also added that the song had been rejected long before by well known freedom fighter Sikhs like Baba Kharak Singh and Master Tara Singh.[21]

My self as a Sikh has no problem with it . I am pretty sure a majority of Sikhs dont .This 21st century after all .We have more Pressing issues in Hand.

As a Muslim the most important thing for us is our religion

Then don't you think you should be in Islamic Republic of Pakistan.Here in India, Naton is above all religions, being Hindu majority it leans towards Hiduism.You should be grateful to India not to your Religion.

Sgpc does not dictate the way I see Religion..Majority of people dont ..So keep that aside ..
Majority of These Religious Organisations tend to play dirty Politics over things which are non issue for a common sikh

Vande Mataram was the preferred song of Bangali freedom fighters during the British era. The concept of Vande Mataram song is that one acknowledges the country as their Ishth/Deity. This is why many people see singing of this song as going against their religious beliefs. One is not pro or anti India based on whether or not they choose not to sing this song and neither should they be forced to sing this song to prove themselves. You can be a patriotic loyal Indian and not believe in your country as your deity of worship. But that MP should not have walked out. I don't know why he did that.

Vande Mataram has always been an exclusive Hindu slogan. Muslims always opposed this. INA had Jai Hind slogan and "Kadam Kadam Bharaye Chalo" song.

First Change the name of our country from The Republic Of India to Hindu Republic of india

The problem was not solved by partition because the main reason for it was to give muslim their seperate land which you guys took it but now these problem is going to surface again in couple of decade in which muslim population is going to be majority no matter how much they hide it .

The problem is not calling our homeland mother but calling her goddess durga.

Sgpc does not dictate the way I see Religion..Majority of people dont ..So keep that aside ..

Well, Muslims are already at least 20% of India's population, according to internet Hindus, it is as high as 25%. There is absolutely no doubt about it, a time will come when the Muslims of India will demand another country and will succeed in carving out a new Islamic country for themselves. It is inevitable, it has happened before and will happen again. The idea of India is weak judging by India's performance since 1947, it is an absolute miracle the union has lasted this long.

Only First two stanzas of Vande matram have the status of National Song, not the whole song. There is nothing related to religion in that part of the song.
