BSNL to set up connectivity through Bangladesh

Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has planned to set up telecom connectivity through Bangladesh for North Eastern region of the country due to tough terrain and geographical isolation, top BSNL executive said today.

"Ministry has attached much importance in consolidating telecom network in NE region and we are interested in setting up an alternative route through Bangladesh due to tough terrain," Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL RK Upadhayaya said.

Connectivity would be set up between Agartala and Dhaka via Akhaura in Bangladesh and between Sabroom in south Tripura and Cox's Bazar in Chittagong in Bangladesh to provide smooth telecom connectivity, he told reporters.

"Optical Fibre Cable [OFC] has been laid between Kolkata and Dhaka. With the implementation of new telecom policy in next financial year, BSNL would be able to expand telecom network across rural India," Upadhyay said.

He hoped that BSNL would retain its business and buy more equipments to provide better service in the country and compete with other telecom companies.

Upadhyay came here to discuss with the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar about the development plans in Tripura and the region.

The government has planned to extend OFC to 25,000 panchayats across the country to provide broadband services, he said.

This is an evil ploy by RAW to tap secret conversations of Bangladeshis' especially Munshi Babu .. as he had also proved in the past how Indian agents were spying on his movements / communication...

.
Good initiative to bring north-east more closer to India as well as Bangladesh.NE people are hard working and calm by nature, they deserve more.Bangladesh should ask more investment and market opportunities there in return.

.
Bangladesh location is probably the most useless in the world.

Its surrounded by India all sides.

Its on land, which is very erodible, making the land size reduce year on year. Would just be better if India and Bangladesh combined.

Should of done it when India made East Pakistan into Bangladesh.

.
Does it mean that we might see some call-centers or BPO centers here in NE ???? or it just not related ..

.
Just found railtel OFC network across India .... they already covered NE

^^^ seems BSNL left behind railtel

Big question is what Bangladesh will get in return or another free initiative for India!!!

You will get to see the cables passing through your territotry and lots of oppurtunities to start new threads here in pdf every now and then:D,
Apart from all these you might earn some revenue for allowing the cables to pass through your country..

Never heard of this one before. Indo-BD relations are so secretive. What's happening, Hasina?
