Big Salute! BSF women daredevils ‘Seema Bhavani’ perform breathtaking stunts on Republic Day; watch video
The brave women performed 16 varieties of stunts, including bike stunts, at Rajpath. The team was led by women sub-inspector Stanzin Noryang who is 28-year-old from the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
This Republic Day, women power was on full display at Rajpath when 27 members Border Security Force (BSF) women daredevils left everyone amazed with their stunts and acrobatics on powerful 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles. The women daredevils team of BSF ‘Seema Bhavani’ or the ‘border braves’ were applauded by the crowd and dignitaries present on the occasion. But what made women bikers hit the Rajpath on Republic Day Parade this year? As per tradition, the BSF and the Army’s bike-borne ‘daredevils’, perform stunts alternatively every year, and end the parade with their roaring bikes.
PTI had quoted an official as saying earlier, “This time it was the BSF’s turn and they have sent in their women contingent. It will be the first time that women bikers will be part of the Republic Day parade.” He had further informed that the women bikers squad have been specially chosen by BSF trainers and are aged between 25-30 years. They are drawn from various combat ranks of the force. The brave women performed 16 varieties of stunts, including bike stunts, at Rajpath. The team was led by women sub-inspector Stanzin Noryang who is 28-year-old from the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone at the parade was awestruck after seeing their stunts.

The Republic Day parade also witnessed the showcase of the Akash weapon system of 27 Air Defence Regiment (Amritsar Air Field), led by Captain Shikha Yadav and Captain Mohammad Yunis Khan. The mobile autonomous system of Brahmos Missile was also showcased during the parade. DRDO’s Nirbhay missile was also displayed at Rajpath.
Earlier in 2015, the BSF ‘daredevil’ team was praised by former US President Barack Obama, while officiating as the chief guest of the parade. Obama signaled a thumbs up to the bikers from his dais on Rajpath and had later called their stunts “impressive”.
Earlier, a similar sort of courage and valor was displayed by Defence minister Nirmala Sithraman when she became the first Indian woman defence minister to fly on a Sukhoi-30 MKI jet. The supersonic jet took off from the Air Force station at Jodhpur, where one of the Sukhoi squadrons is based, rose to a height of 8000 meters and broke the sound barrier. After a 45-minute flight on the India Air Force (IAF)’s frontline jet over the Western sector of Rajasthan bordering Pakistan, Sitharaman was back at the Air Force station. She is the second defence minister and second Indian woman leader to fly in a Sukhoi-30 MKI after then president Pratibha Patil in 2009.
