BSF picks up 5 Bangladeshi nationals | The Daily Star
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up five Bangladeshi nationals from Sunamganj and Thakurgaon border points yesterday morning.
Four people of Laurergar village in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj were detained by BSF members from Meghalaya-Sylhet border around 9:00 am.
The Indian border guards later dragged them inside the Indian territory, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
The detainees are Shahjahan Miah, 24, Shahar Ali, 32, Nayeb Ali, 35, and Shukur Ali, 40.
BSF members picked them up when they were collecting firewood from the bordering area inside the Bangladesh territory, locals said.
Lt Col AKM Maksudul Haque, commanding officer of Eight Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Sunamganj, said We already held a company commander-level flag meeting protesting the incident.
The BSF assured us of taking necessary measures to set the Bangladeshis free soon, he added.
In Thakurgaon, BSF picked up Imani, 35, from Dabri border point under Haripur upazila around 9:15 am, reports our local correspondent.
Imani, son of late Abdur Rashid of Geruadangi village of the upazila, was detained inside the Indian territory when he was returning to Bangladesh with 20 bottles of Phensidyl, said Lt Col Abu Bakar, commanding officer of 30 BGB Battalion.
Later, a company commander-level flag meeting between the BGB and BSF was held at Dabri border area to discuss the release of Imani.
