There was no flag meeting before the shooting, we didn't invite them for flag meeting and shoot them without any provocation and there is no Major rank in BSF. You need some formality arrange a flag meeting. We prohibit Hilsha fishing for certain periods to keep the female hilsha safe, let it lay eggs to increase Hilsha's amount. BGB tried to arrest three fishermen while conducting patrol in Padma river with some officials from ministry of fisheries to prevent fishing Hilsha. Two of them escaped and one got caught with fishing net. Later BGB found out they are Indian.

After a while a BSF patrol team cross the zero point without BGB permission and enter inside our territory illegally. They asked BGB to handover the fisherman to them but BGB said they will do it after arranging a flag meeting between two parties with formalities and told them to wait for senior officer's arrival. But BSF tried to grab the fisherman and go back suddenly. They even beat their own fisherman. When BGB tried to stop them BSF fired 6-8 rounds at BGB. For self-defense BGB took position and started shooting back at them. BSF kept firing while backing out and going back.

After the incident both parties arranged a flag meeting where BSF commander informed it's counterpart that one of their own dies and another got shot in hand. They still haven't officially protested or informed about the death of their soldier.

This happened after bringing that fisherman on our river bank. They got spooked when BGB talked about flag meeting and senior official's arrival

It is pretty clear from the press conference, that these BSF goons run an organized crime of sort. They get a cut from the fishermen for the Hilsha they catch. That's why they got spooked when BGB talked about the flag meeting. The officer didn't mention it explicitly, but the very fact they get scared of flag meeting means they clearly know they were breaking protocol.

Just like they do with cattle smugglers, if you pay commission, you are free to go. If you don't pay up, you die. It's nothing but an organized crime ring run by BSF around our border. And the victims are the innocent citizens like Felani and thousand others who can't afford to pay up.

As for this incident, we are waiting for an official statement from the government - If it was indeed BSF's fault then the matter should be managed diplomatically, but if not, a few BGB will disappear in the coming days.

Indians are in delusion and will be always in delusion. How come bsf trained Mukti Bahini? Bangladesh was East Pakistan before 1971, and our East Bengal regiment was the part of Pakistan armed forces. And freedom fight happened under their command, by various trained civilians under them.

Bsf only trained forces like Mujib Bahini, Qaderiya Bahini, that are the part of different branch of freedom fighters, not the mainstream Mukti Bahini.

So I am wondering how even Indian can say this?

We have always been taught to have pro-Bangladesh views or at least not anti Bangladesh views growing up. Its only with the arrival of Haseena that their has been a glitch in our relationship but i am certain this is temporary due to Haseena.

Well done to the Bangladeshi border forces. We can empathize with you fully as Indian border forces target civilians on their western border as well. The only way to shut them up is to fire back at them and make them pay dearly. Then they will disappear for the time being.

The firing, in which a member of India’s Border Security Force has reportedly been killed, began after BSF troops crossed the border illegally, the Border Guard Bangladesh has said.

The BGB said in a statement on Thursday its members in Rajshahi retaliated when the Indian border guards opened fire in a bid to snatch away an Indian fisherman detained amid a ban on fishing during hilsa breeding season.

The BSF later claimed in a flag meeting with the BGB that an Indian border guard died and another was injured in the incident that happened around 10:40am along the Padma river, according to the statement from Rajshahi BGB Battalion-1.

The BGB tried to catch three fishermen during a drive on the river in the presence of a fisheries department official and detained one of them with nets while the two others fled, the statement said.

The fisherman identified himself as an Indian national from Murshidabad, it said.

Sometime after the drive, a four-member BSF patrol crossed the border by a speedboat “illegally without permission” and entered some 600 metres into Bangladesh, the BGB said.

The BGB personnel had said the fisherman would be handed to the Indian authorities formally later when the BSF soldiers demanded he be freed immediately, the BGB statement said.


“But they beat up the fisherman and tried to snatch him away from the BGB,” it said.

“Having been prevented by the BGB members, the BSF soldiers fired six to eight shots on the BGB personnel.

“The BSF soldiers continued to fire their guns while leaving the place quickly after the BGB patrol fired into the air in self-defence,” the statement said.

In a flag meeting later, BSF claimed a member of the force died in the firing and another was injured, according to the statement.

The detained fisherman would be handed to police, it added.

Rajshahi BGB Battalion-1 Commander Lt Col Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud later told the media that both sides agreed in the flag meeting to investigate the “inconsistencies” in the two versions of the story.

A post commander and five troopers approached the BGB patrol in a BSF boat, the Indian border guards said in a statement earlier.

“During the flag meeting, the BGB patrol not only refused to release the Indian fisherman but also tried to cordon the BSF troops. Sensing that the situation is worsening, the BSF party immediately returned. BGB troops opened fire on the returning BSF party," NDTV said quoting the BSF statement.
