‘Brotherly’ countries turn down Pakistan’s request

we found our selfs in the same positions in 91 . thank god for MMS and his policies . it took a while , almost a decade , but things turned around. i have read that only 17 % of people in Pakistan pay tax ( one of the largest revenue makers for the government ) may be some member here could enlighten us .
another question that comes to mind is that aren't petrol and diesel taxed? in India the tax is almost 40 rs to the liter of petrol . cant the GOP get any revenue from that?

.
You do know the root cause is that the common pakistanis do not pay their taxes right? Easy to blame the govt.

Yeah right, its funny how Indian try to show that they know more about us then we do,

dude take your obsession some were else, and don't poke your noise where it doesn't belong

Why are you linking democracy to industrialization, Western nations were already well industrialized even around WWII. Interesting thing to note is that when a country defaults, its trade haults. But lets say if US decides to default today, would it be facing the same situation? a simple answer would be would a country decline to buy Boeign 737, or Hellfire Missiles or Superhornet or F-16s if US offers it? US can decline to buy from the rest of the world, but to a broader extent the reverse can not happen :)

You have no idea. No they can not decline to buy unless there were already a embargo on Chinese. You only mentioned few items but most of the consumer goods comes from outside.

The biggest achievement for Indian democracy is that it has maintained the unity of India as well as allowed cultural autonomy for all ethinic, linguistic and religious groups in India. In India even the largest linguistic group like Hindi speakers are not more than 40% of the country's population. A dictatorship and iron hand will never go with the free spirit of the Indian people and may result in more problems that solutions.

China on the other hand has been historically had a single ethinc group and a single linguistic group that occupies a super majority of over 90%. The Chinese people tend to meekly surrender to the powerful leaders wether it be the past dynasties or the Mao Zedong of the present no matter how harsh they are with them. And there is realistically no cultural, linguistic or religious autonomy and nobody who can effectively demand it given the nature of the Chinese state.

In other words, India is like a small version of the global village. And if there ever will be a global government. Then the Indian constitution and legal system would probably be the inspiration on how all countries can maintain their identity and still be part of that world government.

Just why do you suppose Pakistanis keep electing these corrupt feudals? It's an unspoken contract. Everybody gets a tax holiday and people can keep complaining about bad governance.

Exactly, our leaders reflect the masses in the end. The horrible quality of our leadership is due to the very poor quality of our own people. Thats the bitter truth.

Why do you think even the military rule did not work on this part? Because the rulers, no matter elected or not, reflect the people.

But then only blaming the leaders is giving a free pass to the people, after all ,where is the accountability of people?

"Meeky surrender"?

We have had more revolutions in the past century than most countries have had for the past several centuries.

All would-be invaders were eventually thrown out by violent revolution. Which is why India was colonized, but China was not.

"Meeky surrender" would apply to you more than us. You never even fought back against the colonizers, Gandhi just pleaded with them.

If it gets bloody and rebels win .... THEN IT IS

Revolution may bring change in the type of rule/who gets to rule (but not necessary)
Civil war is usually fought between 2 factions within the same state which may or may not involve birth of new ideas/values
