8 nation alliance colonization of China led to modern Chinese state creation, if not it would have been a vassal of the Qing empire just like Mongolia FACT

What? I don't even understand this point, the 8 nation alliance sacked Beijing and 20+ years later Republic of China was create. What is the connection?

Modern Taiwan is a legacy of Japanese colonial rule. FACT

So...? Also don't see how this has anything to do with anything. Korea was under its rule for about the same amount of time.

Hong Kong a legacy of British Colonial rule FACT.
This is why you are referred to a "Chinese colonialist" and asked get out

Ok... I don't understand any of your points, we handed Taiwan and HK to the British and Japanese, if they had not been part of China, why would we hand them over, why would they even ask? We didn't hand Dehli to British. They also never asked us.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, that China was made by colonization? How can that be when we were never colonized. Not to any real extent anyways. If defeats are enough to call colonized, where do you think the German emperor was crowned.

A Han Chinese claiming Manchu to be part of Chinese is like Armenians claiming Turks to be Armenians

But then again China even claims Mongols to be Chinese, so no surprises here

lol I am from this place called Manchuria. You know jack about China, anyone that talk Manchuria when talking race and separatism knows so little about China that it's hilarious.

Don't bother responding, ignored.

Europeans were trading with Mughals , who were ruling India .
Greeks were trading culture , knowledge , Wealth etc during Mauryan's .
Romans were trading with India during Pre Gupta and Gupta regime .

India as a Cultural nation existed since the era of Alexander and Cyrus . India as a Country only existed after 1947 .

Republic of India is there because of Indus valley Civilization . A nation which has absorbed all other nations in the name of Supreme Creator .

British killed Industry and Agriculture of India .
They forced Indians to grow cash Crops which resulted in worst Famines in Bengal .
They imposed heavy taxes on Indians . Which were even worse than those taxes imposed by tyrant rulers .

And it is the British which are forcing India to be third largest spender on defense and war? Right??

Somebody please tell this Shashoo there was no India when the British came. There was however a Moghul Empire which was Muslim empire - a group that Indian's revel on targeting and blaming Muslim's for their ills. Now all of sudden the Muslim's were benefators of Hindus and had them living it 'good' ......

Contradictions after contradictions !
There is hardly any contradictions at all. What makes you think that Shashi Tharoor is already not aware of the basic that there was no India when the British came? In his introductory texts, he has acknowledged the fact that the 'India' he is referring to no longer exists and has become three separate states. What he is writing as an 'Indian' applies equally to the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh as well.

He has equally acknowledged, that though the early Muslims ravaged Indian temples, monasteries, their economic policies unlike the British, were integrated with the prosperity of the land they ruled. Their revenues depended on not from taxing the cultivators, but from the tapping into network of regional and global trade.Though they occasionally sent their tribute to their ancestral land in Samarkhand and Bukhara, the revenues were by and large spend for the betterment of people. The taxation was never rigid and depended on negotiations between the taxing authority and the cultivator, climatic conditions and corp failures; which however was drastically altered when company became the revenue collecting enterprise in 1765. Except some hardcore Hindutvawadis, I don't think anyone blames the Muslim rulers of bad governance in India.

@Syama Ayas

please dont link British colonization of India with China- thats digusting. u guys have low IQ and thus, got colonised and bent down over by the British.

There's only Independance day in india after the British left.
There only Founding of the PRC day aka National Day at the conclusion of the Chinese civil war against the KMT in China.

India itself is a byproduct of the union of Britain with the land we call India today aka British Raj.

Always the same inferiority complex of Indians due to having to endure the shame and carry the stigma of being a colonised nation in the past. That's what your ascendants and descendants had and will always have to deal with:

U guys got screwed by the British for over 200 years. After independance, u guys then got screwed by the Chinese. People with low genetic IQ can only do that much

hahahahaha

Im pretty sure he atually knows the real history inside, but wants to distort it, by creatively painting China as being a 'colonised' state together with his beloved India.

hahahahhaa.

When Britain came to India, the standard of living in India was higher than in the UK.

When they left, the standard of living in Britain was twenty times higher than in India.

Time to stop playing the victimization card and stop applying for Immigration to UK Indians

Pakistan does not have a beef with British Empire it is past and old history
Empire has no power

Britain is ruled by its poeple now

We are "moving on"

It is clear he was writing about the subcontinent as a whole.

The British benefited from a crumbling mogul empire and established their rule. To claim the subcontinent was colonised in the same way as the Americas or Australia or South Africa is inaccurate. The British raj ruled the subcontinent and economically exploited it but they never colonised it.

staying on to topic,

British brought industralization to India- Railways, infrastructure were built. telegrams and postal services were established. The spices, dye and cotton that Europeans had came for in the first place were grown and manufactured with improved methods introduced by the British. maritime trade routes were expanded by the British to reach Far eastern and North American ports via the Pacific.

Even the opium sold to China by the British came from India.

Had it not been for the British, there would not had been even the country we call India today.

There was industrialization in Russia, Japan and and Germany. The British never colonized them.

Yes, opium was produced in India. Millions of peasants starved to death because land used to grow food was taken over for opium poppy plants. And millions of Chinese died as a result. What further proof do you need that the driving force was mindless greed, not the welfare of the brown men?

I am always amazed when natives praise the conquest of their countries and their own enslavement by the white master.

Railways, telegraph, postal services were all introduced not for the betterment of the people but for the convenience of the Raj. Indian railways were build on Indian tax payer's money and it was a big economic scam. Whereas in Europe, it costed around £2000 per km, Indian railway costed £18000 per km. The freight charges unlike today were way more cheaper than the passenger charges, which made the railways practically unaffordable to the poor. Moreover the prime intention of Indian railway was to extract minerals, raw materials for British industries to send to Indian ports.

Not sure what made you think that British introduced better methods of agriculture in India, when Indians already knew how to cultivate much better than Britisher for thousands of years. The cotton industry was destroyed and Indian cloth export diminished over the years. Peasants were forced to cultivate indigo at an unprofitable rate just as opium making their lives further miserable.
And am really not sure, why the fact of Indian political integration is repeatedly being mentioned here when it is already known that British left the subcontinent they pieced together with a blood of partition in hand and over 600 princely states scattered all over.

There was a parliamentary investigation as to how to improve the productivity of Indian agriculture. It was found that ( at the time) the Indians were so skilled in the art that it couldn't be improved.

The rail network was introduced to

1. Move raw material so it could be exported and

2. to move the military to quell uprisings.

An act of parliament meant that it was illegal to be involved in any activity which competed with industry in Britain. For example cotton could not be processed in India because it would compete with the textile mills in Britain. You couldn't establish a bicycle factory in India because it would compete with a bicycle factory in Britain. And so on. Britain effectively destroyed all industrial progress in India for a hundred years.

The nation state of Turkey was created from Ottomans, even though they are the same nation and same people. The Manchus were part of China in part of history. Sometime, they were a separate country. But both are pretty much one people nowadays. If you know Chinese history, China absorbed a lot of people around it. Manchuria is just the latest example. So the definition of ethnicity is different for different places.

India, on the other hand, is always defined by caste. Which always separate people, not uniting them.
one thing you forgot to mention, the Manchu people abandon their own language in favor of Chinese, their even change their last name to Chinese last name.

No it is there because of British East India company.

After independence the elites had to create an ideology to keep the British India territory (minus Pakistan) together. That's how all these stories about something called 'India existing since time immemorial..' started.
