Poland working with BAE systems should have full prototype of the PL-01 tank this year.

revolution.jpg

The PL-01 concept tank is being jointly developed by Obrum of Poland and BAE Systems of the United Kingdom. Development started in 2013. A full prototype is estimated to be completed in 2016, and should the project be finaliZed and approved following evaluation, mass production is scheduled to begin in 2018

Currently Polish Army operate about 900 main battle tanks, including PT-91 Twardy and Leopard 2. Also there are about 400 T-72 MBTs in storage. Once in production the PL-01 will be also proposed for export customers.

Poland's parliamentary committee of national defense has approved a defense budget for 2016 of PLN35.9 billion (USD8.9 billion), a rise of 9.4% over last year. The lion's share - PLN1.9 billion - will go to Poland's armed forces technical modernization programme. In total, Poland will spend PLN9.3 billion on the modernization programme, with PLN0.9 billion going to military research and development programmes.

Poland is ranked 5th fastest growing economy in EU and is forecast to have 3.5% GDP growth in 2016 and 2017

The PL-01 is based on the Swedish CV90120-T light tank also built by British defence conglomerate BAE Systems. The PL-01 also shares some similarities with the Anders light tank, which is also based on the same platform. Weight of the future PL-01 tank is claimed to to be 35 t. Other sources claim that production tank will weight about 45-50 t.

The new Polish tank will have modular protection with multi-layer ceramic-aramid armor

The project is remarkable for the Polish military because the new tank will allow for replacing German-made Leopard-2 tanks.

The PL-01 would be rival to the newest Russian T-14 tank based on the versatile Armata platform.

Armor Plates would adjust to ambient temperature to make it invisible to infrared

The vehicle armor has a modular ceramic-aramid shell, which is designed to provide protection compatible with NATO standard STANAG 4569 Annex A at level 5+ across the front portions of the hull and turret. Additional armor panels are mounted on the turret and hull, and are designed to provide full protection against a range of projectiles. The hull of the vehicle provides protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines in accordance with appendix B parts 4a and 4b of the STANAG 4569 standard. The entire vehicle will be covered with radiation-absorbent material.

The PL-01 will be equipped with a 940 horsepower (700 kW)+ diesel engine coupled to a torque converter, automatic gearbox and driving assistance mechanism. The suspension is based on seven wheels, with the drive shafts having active damping of torsion bars mounted on the first and last two pairs. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour (43 mph) on paved roads and 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) in rough terrain with a maximum range of 500 kilometers (310 mi). It can successfully climb an inclination of 30 degrees, cross ditches and trenches to a width of 2.6 meters (8 ft 6 in), and cross water obstacles with a depth of up to 1.5 meters (4 ft 11 in) without preparation, and up to 5 meters (16 ft) deep with preparation

The primary weapon of the PL-01 is a 105 or 120 mm caliber gun fitted within the unmanned turret, in accordance with NATO standards. The cannon will be able to shoot both conventional projectiles and guided anti-tank missiles. The autoloader ensures a shot fire rate of 6 per minute. The vehicle carries 45 rounds, of which 16 are located in slots within the turret and ready to fire, and the remainder stored within the chassis compartment. The tank is also armed with a 7.62 mm caliber UKM-2000C machine gun with an ammunition supply of 1,000 rounds.

Additional equipment will be installed in a remote-controlled module. Presently the planned designs include a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm caliber machine gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher with a supply of 750 rounds of 7.62 mm, 400 rounds of 12.7 mm or 96 rounds of 40 mm

this is too small to be our main tank but it would make a good supplement with the challanger 2 and the upcoming ajax scout sv.

Yes, I agree to some extent . I believe it's more like an armoured fighting vehicle than main battle tank per se. So yes, it will indeed be a formidable addition/supplement to our challengers and the new Ajax sv . :)

if/when in battle i would assume it would be for first strike but it would need some punch from the smaller than standard tanks whaich have the bigger guns.

Congrats to both countries. By the way how expensive would it be to produce and operate?

dont be lazy and do some research

Come on dude, you can't compare a fully developed advanced country who has been building tanks/military equipments for almost a century now with a newly developing country. Of course it will take more time for developing countries like India and Pakistan to come anywhere close to making defence equipment to our standards. Except you use the short cut of copying/reverse engineering without permission, then it might shorten the time needed abit, but with consequences as well.
Everything has its own time, but at the end you will eventually get there :)

I don't know why but it looks very "sensitive" and "vulnerable". :what:
Yet, majority of countries around the globe will kill to have such a 'sensitive and vulnerable' toy in their military arsenal(that is for those we will even agree to sell to in future in the first place. Lol ). :argh::D

PL-01 Tank has a major feature, that it is virtually invisible to radar and thermals, that distinguishes it from the traditional tanks. The PL-01 Tank is invisible to enemy thermal imaging, infrared, and radar which make it unique and an attractive buy for any nation’s Army

KEY SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PL-01:
The Polish PL-01 tank has some unique and distinctive features that make it different from other traditional concept of most modern tanks. The obvious specification is that it is a stealth tank as far as radar and thermals are concerned. Very significant technologies are integrated into the concept to help the tank reduce its infrared signature. Cooled wafers are used on the outside of the tank to perplex the tracking systems of anti-tank weapons on the battlefield. It has the capacity to avoid the enemy thermal imaging, infrared and radar. In addition, the tank has a 940hp diesel engine that has the special capability of dispersing the exhaust system to further reduce its infrared signature. This feature will allow it to blend in with the environment by confusing the electronic detection systems of the enemy. Special cooled wafers (like a cooling plate) on the outside of the tank are used to make the tank appear more like a car or other object when it is viewed in infrared or detected in the enemy thermal devices. The tank has an unmanned turret and a large auto loading cannon. The turret is very versatile and can do multiple different firing tasks from the same vehicle. The angles of the tank are intended to diminish its radar signature and it is enclosed with a radar permeable coating. The sum total weight of the tank is 30,000 kg (standard layout) and with additional armor panels, it is 35,000 kg. The length, width and height of this vehicle are respectably 7 m, 3.8 m and 2.8 m. It can facilitate a crew of three. The main armament of this tank constitutes 105 mm or 120 mm caliber main cannon and the secondary armament is 7.62 mm remote controlled machine gunas well as other active and passive countermeasures. This includes a 40 mm or 12.7 mm grenade launcher, heat and radar reduction. It is equipped with a 940 horse power diesel engine attached to a torque converter, automatic gearbox and driving assistant mechanism. The suspension torsion bar is based on seven wheels. The speed can vary from smooth road to rough territory. On paved roads, the tank is supposed to reach up to 70 kph and on rough terrain, it can reach up to 50 kph. The operational range is maximum 500 km on paved roads. The PL-01 tank can use steel or rubber tracks. It can move rapidly on and off roads and efficiently traverses water.

How much would those amour plates cost to replace, i mean its not like a tank doesnt get a scratch when used.
(by scratch i mean bullet and rocket damages)

Thats Poland "building tanks for almost a century"? Haha nice joke.
What Hell Where the World Is And Where Us

You at spot when you are producing pretty large quantities of practical tanks for real combat. Things like Poland is at spot where they make cardboard fantasy prototypes, which never will go to the mass production, cause when they will be ready for it (and if), they will be outdated.
Cause future war is war of autonomous drones and robots. Today's war is war of practical and mass-producable tanks. Between this 2 points in time there is no place for "fantasy tanks"
