I'm all for criticising the French interventions in Libya, Syria etc but they had nothing to do with this attack. It was motivated by cartoons, nothing more.

Actually cartoons like these have been done by them for a few years now and if I remember correctly some authority did tell them to stop a few years ago especially as Muslims had complained but they weren't hard on them and they just went ahead did it again, so you can say they should have been expecting this.

threat to UK(as suggested by MI5) comes not from any cartoon but people returning from syria. UK was stupid to support nasty entities to fight in syria.. am pretty sure they must have sent weapons as well as staff to support.
Although better sense prevailed in the end and no armaments were sent.
