It is now official: VW is going to set up a new car factory in Turkey.

Turkey was competing against Bulgaria. Later on in the process, even Riyadh tried to convince VW to invest in Saudi Arabia instead of Turkey. It is said that Qatar - a big shareholder - fiercely opposed this idea and supported Turkey's position in securing this investment.

. . .
Between 300.000 and 350.000 units will be produced in this factory annually. This is really a big investment and a further step towards a more industrialised Turkey. For comparison, Turkey produced ~730.000 vehicles in the first 6 months of 2019.

Congrats Turkey, it is indeed a good news.

If anyone here is informed about the automotive industry can you tell me if this will have an effect on VW prices in Turkey?

And still we don't have our own after having huge know-how about car making. It seems to me that it's being blocked by big companies due to stress of breaking ecology of car industry in Turkey. I can't find any other explanation. We should have at least 4-5 car maker companies by now with everything we have got related to car making.

VW alwways is one of the top-sellers in Turkey. After all I am glad that they entered the market. It will create more job oppurtinities and experience input for Turkey.

Another thing is the impact on the market. VW Group such a big company. It will ease the making decision for another foreign inverstors who think about Turkey for investment. It will cause more investment, more hot liquidite and will ease stress on economy and Lira. You can see Euro below 6 and Dolar below 5 soon if something bad doesn't happen.

It will. The government promised to reduce the taxes on new cars. It's part of the deal. I assume that cars manufactered in Turkey will become cheaper in general.

The problem isnt ''know how''... I mean just think there is already few bus and tractor companies in Turkey... The problem is Turkish companies believes a Turkish made car will not gonna be benefical for them. You will spend a lot of money and your market share will be limited because Turkey isnt a ''big market'' So producing a car isnt a problem. But selling it is a one great problem.

Totally disagree. A quality Turkish car for middle-class could have a sizeable market share. The car producers in Turkey already making huge profit by just selling foreing brands. They just don't care about being it Turkish brand or not. Another word, why invest billions to make a car "Turkish". Govt. wants them to act nationalistic other than racionalist.
