It's not even about that. As the US has shown in the past, any and every entity doing business with Iran will be sanctioned, if Iran is sanctioned. This means that even if the helicopter had 0 foreign parts, US would still sanction the Turkish companies making it.

Because the whole idea is to try and preserve an arms embargo against Iran.

Actually, Trump had no interest in embargo on Iran. It was wish of Israel and Saudi arabia to keep sanctions. Because due to sanctions, Saudi were selling more oil and using Iranian quota in OPEC. Now alliances are changing and due to less resources and trade interest are changing. EU need cheap gas and oil and Iran is there best bet at this moment. Plus, Iran need massive investment to develop decades old infrastructure ... It's all money ..

Just like case of Japan, one of them need to give up its ambitions and in case of Iran and US, none of the will. Best we can hope for is that they stop calling each other terrorists and enemies and hopefully leave each other alone.

The new bloc will be taking place, very soon. Apparently, parties are being set free to be armed & loaded. M.E/Gulf might get hotter than before. It all depends upon when the both sides are ready. External forces will be taking precautions and will wait for the side that falls & weak. The beneficiary will then make a move. The way it has been agreed by most of the powers, seems like plan is already made and rules are decided in mutual agreement behind closed doors. Since, major players are sitting against each other on the table, none of the parties wanted a weak side to be taken out like that. It might sound like much of a novel but I can observe how things are getting unfold. The arm race begins that means the war is coming or it can play as a deterrent but that depends upon the game plan at large.
