WASHINGTON: The US administration — encouraged by the ongoing operation in Fata — has informed Congress that Pakistan is now targeting both Afghan and Pakistani Taliban.

The assessment, given at a congressional hearing, differs drastically from an earlier Pentagon report, which said that Pakistan was only targeting TTP, while allowing the Haqqanis to escape.

But at the latest congressional hearing on Afghanistan and Pakistan, US Principal Deputy Special Representative Jarrett Blanc said “the operations have disrupted militant activities in the tribal areas and resulted in seizures of weapons caches and significant quantities of IED materials.”

In a Pentagon-hosted video briefing from Afghanistan on Wednesday, Lieutenant General Joseph Anderson said Haqqani network was now fractured just like the Taliban.

“That’s based pretty much on the Pakistan operations in North Waziristan this entire summer-fall,” he said, while acknowledging the effectiveness of Zarb-e-Azb.

“That has very much disrupted their efforts here (in Afghanistan) and has caused them to be less effective in terms of their ability to pull off an attack in Kabul,” Anderson added.

Frankly speaking I have gotten over the Mumbai attacks,it happened 7years back.
Those who had committed the crime 're super humans and can not be touched, I have left it at that.
But am glad India learnt it's lessons from the attack, the sleepy police force is now well equipped, anti-terror squad is on high alert and since last 7yrs terrorists have been mostly silenced. Our metropolitan cities have become citadels literally, occasional low intensity blasts are inevitable.

New structures will turn into ruins without security. That's why you need proper deployment of forces there.

we can't protect every thing. i don't think the Taliban will destroy roads, dams and power plants, as they too need all these. even in a documentary from vice news channel, i saw that taliban is collecting the money of electricity from the houses. so it is a source of money for them too. but parliament building is something they don't need so obviously they will attack it.

Taliban are a loose cannon now, they will do whatever they can to gain some traction.
the peace deal is an offer they have to accept because its not just Pakistan but America and the Arabs as well that are pushing them for a deal in UAE offices.

hey come on they are bound to attack back when we are pounding them in North Waziristan and the Afghans are hitting them with the help of remaining NATO /CIA forces / drones). Taliban say that the talks dont mean its the end of the fighting and they justify it over the operations against them.
so its understandable they will fight back its only that they will loose as they will fracture out from their body as the more volatile and radical ones will continue to fight and even break up with rest of the body.

there is ISIS element too, as ISIS gains notoriety, Taliban want to remain relevant through their own attacks.

ISIS is little more than an imagination in Afghanistan. This is clearly done by Taliban. It is clear Taliban coming on to the negotiation table is little.

I don't get how it is understandable? if they are sitting across for peace talks then it's imperative that they stop their killings. such acts will not only reverse the so called "peace talks" but will take out any public support towards it. But I get it - they are a bunch of tribal primates with killing and retarded way of life as their only goal of existence.

I am not their advocate, I despite them 100 times more than you would despite LeT / HS etc. what I am saying is that both Pak army, Afghan army and Americans are continuously hunting them down via air and ground. therefore I dont expect the Taliban to sit back and take it quietly when we all know there are factions among them and they are not bound by any international code etc.

they dont call them peace talks, they just call them deal. or negotiations this is why they have time and again said that fight will continue side by side whenever they get the chance. as long as they know they can get away with it and have a chance they will hit you so that they are in a better bargaining position. dont expect a letter or resignation or surrender from them. even if their major faction calls halting the attack, a sub faction may continue for blackmailing purposes.

its hard to understand the tribal mentality behind a screen and reading some articles or some programs of some people who have never been to the place. for them submission means killing every single person of your opponent and their children and taking away the women.
