Missing AirAsia flight: Unconfirmed reports of wreckage found near Belitung Island - Nation | The Star Online

PETALING JAYA: Unconfirmed reports have emerged online that wreckage, allegedly to be from the missing AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 has been found in the waters off East Belitung.

This was reported by the Bangka Pos, which however added that there was no confirmation that the purported wreckage is indeed from QZ8501.

The news follows a press conference by Indonesia's Director of Air Transport, Djoko Murjatmodjo on Sunday morning.

They need to make planes being able to survive ocean crashes. It shouldnt be too hard.
Not only is it hard, but very very hard. Simply put, there is no way to know HOW an aircraft will enter the water surface. To date, the most survivable water landing is the 'belly landing', see US Airways 1549, aka 'Miracle On The Hudson'. Any other entry will end in catastrophe.

Someday we will be able to train for all types of crash landings via really good simulators, but for now, how an aircraft land outside of its normal physical configuration and environment completely depends on the training, experience, and mental state of the pilot(s) at the time of the emergency.

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian government has denied that AirAsia flight QZ8501 had crashed east of Belitung Islands in the Jawa Sea.

Indonesia's air transportation director general, Djoko Murjatmodjo said the agency has yet to receive any information surrounding the missing flight which had gone missing after the plane departed from Surabaya's Juanda International Airport at 5:20am (local time).

AirAsia flight QZ8501 was supposed to arrive in Singapore at 8:30am.

Djoko also stressed that search operations are underway.

"We will soon depart to monitor the signs around the location of the missing flight," said Djoko.

Several media portals had earlier reported of an aircraft which had crashed at Belitung Islands.

It is actually very hard and very expensive...the problem is that when a large aircraft hits the water at any significant speed the effect is the same as the aircraft hitting concrete.

actually i read somewhere beyond 65 kmph , water behaves just like concrete. so it is hard to make a plane withstand such a large force .

BAD weather might be the culprit here as the pilot requested a course change before the plane gone missing.
