SRINAGAR:

Indian police said on Friday they have arrested a prominent Kashmiri activist who was this week prevented from travelling to Geneva, where he had been due to brief UN officials on the strife-torn region.

Khurram Pervez was arrested late on Thursday after returning to his home in Srinagar, which has been roiled for months by violent protests over the killing of a young separatist by Indian soldiers. Police superintendent Faisal Qayoom confirmed his arrest but did not say what the charges were. “We are looking into it. For the moment we’ve taken him into custody,” he said.

Pervez’s wife Samina told AFP police had come to the family home late on Thursday to arrest him. He can be held for up to six months without charge under India’s Public Safety Act. More than 80 people have been killed in Indian occupied Kashmir since the militant leader’s death on July 8, in one of the deadliest bouts of violence since a full-blown armed rebellion was at its peak in the 1990s.

Pakistan tugs at world conscience on Kashmir

Most have died in clashes between protesters and police and paramilitaries who have fired tear gas and pellet guns at demonstrators. Authorities this week banned prayers to mark Eidul Azha at the main mosque in Srinagar, capital of India’s only Muslim-majority state. Internet and mobile networks have also been cut off in a bid to prevent a repeat of the protests.

Pervez, coordinator of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), was scheduled to brief a UN Human Rights Council session on the situation, but immigration officials blocked him from boarding his flight at Delhi’s main airport.

Both India and neighbouring Pakistan lay claim to the whole of the Himalayan territory, which has been divided between the two since they separated seven decades ago. The two countries, which are both now nuclear powers, have twice gone to war over the territory and accuse each other of stoking violence.

Please google of bitta karTe

"He was trained to kill on instruction." Sounds like a good Winter Soldier program sequel.

Just so we're talking about the same guy, he was a serial killer, captured but later released because the Prosecution didn't want to argue the case right?

LONDON: Exiled Baloch leader Brahumdagh Bugti is set to get Indian passport after long negotiations with the Indian authorities, it was revealed on Thursday.

Credible sources within the outlawed Baloch Republican Party (BRP) have confirmed to this correspondent that India in principle has agreed to grant citizenship to Brahumdagh Bugti and his key aides to enable them to move around freely in the world – in the same way that India has facilitated Dalai Lama who uses an Indian passport to travel around the world to campaign against China.

Geo News has learnt from authoritative sources that Brahumdagh will formally apply for Indian citizenship in Geneva after a meeting of his banned party's officials in Geneva on 18th-19th September.

Brahumdagh's only sister is married to prominent Baloch leader Mehran Baloch, who is a British national but lives mostly in Dubai and is active in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

"Everything is agreed and settled between the Indian government and Brahumdagh. He will submit his official request to the Indian mission in Geneva after getting endorsement from his party," said the source.

The Indian establishment opened negotiations with Brahumdagh Bugti on granting him Indian citizenship earlier this year – much before Indian premier Narendra Modi broke his cover of supporting Baloch insurgents a month ago – after he came to the view that he may not get Swiss passport anytime soon and could be staying confined in Switzerland for an indefinite time period.

On January 16 this year, this correspondent had reported exclusively, quoting credible Baloch and Swiss sources, that the asylum application of the outlawed BRP leader Brahamdagh Bugti has been turned down by the Switzerland immigration authorities. The BRP reacted with fury and said that the report was "propaganda" against the exiled Baloch leader.

But now Brahumdagh himself and the BRP officials accept that the grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti had asked the Swiss immigration authorities to make a decision on his case but he was informed at the start of this year that his case "remains in the process" and "no time frame" can be given.

Bugti alleges that the Switzerland government is under pressure from Pakistan to not grant him citizenship status, enabling him to get the Swiss passport for travel.

The source said that if India can give sanctuary to anti-China leader Dalai Lama then there should be no problem for Brahumdagh Bugti. He revealed that Brahumdagh Bugti is in contact with a "leading western power and the response we have received is great".

"India has facilitated Dalai Lama against the pressure from a powerful country like China. It helped Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehman as well. It will help Brahumdagh and his colleagues as well. Brahumdagh has asked for Indian citizenship for himself and all his colleagues. There are 15,000 Bugtis stuck in Afghanistan. Around 2,000 are in various countries including European countries. Their asylum applications have been either approved or are in process. Brahumdagh would like all these people accommodated along with his own case," said the source.

Geo News has learnt that, at the first stage, it has been agreed that India will give citizenship to Brahumdagh and his key lieutenants in Switzerland including his trusted aides Sher Muhammad Bugti and Azizullah Bugti.

"We will use Indian papers to travel around the world to campaign against Pakistan and to highlight our case. We have openly thanked Narendra Modi for his support and we are no more hiding anything. We have no other option. We do not care what our opponents think of our support for Modi and his support for us," said the source.

In the meeting on 18th and 19th September in Geneva, seven members of the 16-member BRP will be present to endorse Bugti's decision of openly getting help from India. The BRP members from Germany, London, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland will attend this meeting.

Bugti fled his hometown Dera Bugti in Balochistan in 2006 following the assassination of his grandfather Akbar Bugti. He lived in Afghanistan as a state guest and was then flown from there to Switzerland. He reached Switzerland in late October 2010 and has been living there ever since on political asylum with his family.

This is a face off india which give passports for such terrorist like dalai lama and bugti shows how serious is india when spreading terrorism in neighboring countries and yet modi cry over 0 tolerance on terrorism when you yourself feed terrorism and terrorist

The passport given to him because india can't afford lavish life of his in Switzerland

Pakistan should offer nationality to naxals leaders tit for tat

.
Will be counter productive. Most Baluchis do not like India / Indians. Many have understood their problems have been caused by these sardars / nawabs / khans. Soon Brahmudagh Bugti will become irrelevant - like Bangladeshi Taslima Nasreen.

Please see the larger picture. The aim of the GoI is to target two birds with one stone.Hit Pakistan on its Achilles heel for what they've been doing to us in Kashmir as well as target the CPEC.

During the G-20 summit , if you've carefully observed , talks between PM Modi & President Xi centred around a few key topics.

From the Indian perspective clarity was sought on China's position on Masood AZHAR designation by the UN as a global terrorist & China's veto on it , the CPEC & it's passage thru GB & China's position vis a vis India's admission to NSG .

From China's perspective , they would have been interested on India's view on the UNCLOS arbitration award upholding Philippines's position in the SCS , the Indian view on the CPEC & the prospective alliance shaping up between India & the US.

While one doesn't know what transpired , the subsequent developments seem to shed some light on what may have happened at the Xi - Modi summit in Guangzhou.

While the meet in Delhi between Chinese & Indian interlocutors in Delhi ended with bland statements that each side had a better appreciation of the others PoV - what was conveyed is that the status quo prevails .China hasn't budged.

However, it's with respect to the CPEC that certain startling comments were read courtesy China's CCP mouthpieces in Beijing .Global Times specifically ran a headline asking China not to put all their eggs in the CPEC basket & focus on other neighbours particularly in S.E.Asia.

It's my belief that China may have sought sovereign guarantees from India on the CPEC not becoming a target of Indo Pak enmity & may have received none, which may have prompted a re think on their stand on the CPEC .While this doesn't certainly mean that China has abandoned the CPEC , it certainly signifies a re calibration & a return to the drawing board concerning some aspects of the CPEC.

Besides , what exactly is meant by the CPEC - the master plan as it were , remains unknown as the draft document signed between the government's of Pakistan & China along with its terms & conditiond ,has been withheld from the general public .

What is known are bits & pieces of which Gwadar being developed as a warm water port for exports & receiving oil & gas seems one of them , the creation of a Gwadar to Kashgar all weather highway is another apart from various power projects ( Nuclear , Hydel & Thermal ) .Throw in a few other North South Highways & Rail networks too connecting various corners of Pakistan with a few Industrial parks in between.

The mode of financing , the terms of finance , the pattern of ownership of these projects all remain under wraps .

The granting of an Indian passport ( if it's true ) to Bugti must be seen in this context .This would attract other Balochi separatist leaders to approach India , who will now seek to unite disparate Balochi elements & weld them into a united force to fight for a common cause under Delhi's command.

Which in turn means Ajit Doval is back in business , expected to do what he does best .Raise a formidable Balochi secessionist army to sabotage the CPEC apart from unleashing hell on the Pakistani Army in Balochistan.

If Pakistan can unilaterally try to change the status of the disputed territory multiple times, why can't India unilaterally call and treat it as her internal matter ?? :)

When Pakistan can provide safe heavens for Indian fugitives, why can't India ?? At-least India is doing it legally (if ever) by issuing a valid passport. :p:

Or openly declaring the policy of state sponsoring terrorism in her neighbours.

I never knew why sometime as good as CPEC would have financial details in secrecy

If I will be caught by pakistanis, I will say Allah ke liye etc. I will come prepared with kalma as well just in case.

Kasab is well accepted as pakistani by your own government, so for a change, post logically.

Keep calling the terrorist, the master mind of Samjhota Express, as a harmless politician and you are destroying your own case.

Oh you mean asimanand..then say so, I thought you were referring to subramanium..

Asimanand was in jail and just out on bail (I hope you understand what's bail).

While every known terrorist UN designated or other wise roams freely in Pakistan....Some even protected by your state.

And I thought somebody just said "screw the UN and UNHCR". Now, why the randi-rona about UN-designated........?

Lol. .looks like it's the pakistanis are besting everybody in their randi Rona in front of every country and every international organization.

It's Pakistan that's invoking UN into every India related factor .

So figure out who's the ran**.

.
If he really get Indian passport then he lost his legitimacy ...little bit left for his Baluchistan issue.

How about you find a mate of your type and then discuss with him all smelly and $hitty stuff and spare me?

As long as Pakistan provide safe heaven to Indian fugitives like Dawood Ibrahim, Masood Azhar etc. I won't be surprised if India give political asylum to Mr. Bugti. Why shouldn't they ?? :)
