BrahMos Cruise Missile Not Bound By MTCR, Range Can Be Extended Beyond 300

Ok....But how india will increase range of this missile.?

There is widespread belief that the current BrahMos has a range greater than 300kms. Some scientists have lent credence to this. It has been restricted by software for MTCR purposes for it was done at a time when India did not want Western accusations. And BrahMos block II removes that - it has been put to production.

It make sense if original brahmos(Yakhnoot) range is 1500km and Brahmos is restricted to 300km but the Yakhnoot also have the same range 300km.

OLD NEWS

BrahMos gains sub-strategic super weapon capability

Latest upgrades to the Indo-Russian BrahMos cruise missile make it a sub-strategic super weapon capable of being launched from land, sea, sub-sea and air platforms, say Russian defence industry officials.

“The integration of the X-555 and BrahMos navigation systems has produced a super rocket with a sub-strategic capability above its tactical range. Fired from land, air and sea platforms, it can hit targets at ranges of 300 to 500 kilometres and is also capable of carrying a nuclear warhead,” said the unnamed Russian official.

The Hindu : News / International : BrahMos gains sub-strategic super weapon capability

Derived from Kh-555 and Kh-101 strategic long-range cruise missiles, the navigation systems are expected to transform the BrahMos into a "super-rocket", featuring a nearly close sub-strategic capability that is superior to its normal tactical range, the official added.

With new systems, the missile will be capable of intercepting targets located 300km to 500km away, from a wide range of sea, air and ground-based platforms. The missile will also support the integration of a nuclear warhead.

A total of 216 air-launched variants are expected to be installed aboard the Indian Air Force's (IAF) fleet of 45 Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft under an Rs65bn ($1.16bn) programme.

AhaseebA, the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile has been augmented by the installation of the advanced satellite navigation systems from Russia’s Kh-555 and Kh-101 strategic long-range cruise missiles. The GPS-GLONASS technology has been added to the current Doppler-inertial platform.

This latest integration of the navigation systems from Kh-555 will lend the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile a sub-strategic capability above its normal tactical range. The latest integration will enable BrahMos to hit targets over 300-500 kilometres from sea, land and air launchers.

But I don't understand! How exactly is the navigation system increasing the range of the missile?
GPS/GLONASS is for accuracy, has got nothing to do with increase in range.

Kindly explain if the increase in range is being attributed to a radical change in flight profile.

they also think that agni 5 has range of 8000 km

Think...Officially no one [from Indian establishment] ever said that..the Official range in 5000 km,The next missile which has entered development phase is Agni 6 and Official range WILL BE 6000 KM according to DRDO

. .
they also think that agni 5 has range of 8000 km

sarcasm aside, we never officially claimed agni V to be 8000 km, rather a paltry 5500KM range.. And FYI, Agni V has the following config :

Dia : 2m
Length : 17.5m
Max profile Height : 850KM
Terminal Speed : 25Mach

Now if you have even any iota of knowledge about projectiles, from the comparative study of ICBMs of other countries what should be the probably range ;)

With the testing of Agni-IV/V, DRDO also successfully tested basic requirements to hone the capability to target military sats and also launch micro satellites when needed.

Lots of confusion created by Indian establishment. Lol. On a serious note air launched Bramhos will have the maximum range, that's for sure.

.
Good news.

Ya, that is widely believed.but the actual range is hidden . though no one can say for sure.

firstly if some idiot believes that agni 5 has 8000 km range so than he is more capable than the ones in drdo and should tell the govt. of india about the range of agni 5
and secondly russian intelligence chief has also stated that agni 5 does not have that range and isnt icbm reasons for that

Software improvement and better....high high flight path...
Losing stealth.....more of a qyasi ballistic path...
More range.

Or lose some due to size reduction....

Indian members,

Can you guys explain how exactly BrahMos Aersospace is planning to increase the range of BrahMos?? I get the flight profile thing, but is there anything else? Any other physical addition?

Change in propellant, reducing payload weight by using high quality explosives hence not reducing blast yield.

they also think that agni 5 has range of 8000 km

That was a statement issued by Chinese experts, isnt? @Chinese-Dragon?
