HYDERABAD, JULY 30:
BrahMos Aerospace, the Indo-Russian joint venture that has developed the BrahMos, the world’s first supersonic cruise missile, has bagged orders worth Rs 25,000 crore from the Indian defence establishment.

Having started deliveries to the Indian Army and Navy, the joint venture is slated to commence deliveries of a slightly modified version to the Indian Air Force from 2015.

The missile has attracted global attention for its flexibility in terms of multiple platforms that can be used to launch the 290-km range missile that can achieve a maximum velocity of 2.5-2.8 Mach.

“There is lot of export opportunity, with about 14 countries showing interest (in buying it). However, there are issues such as the country’s security interests and what model (of the missile) can be exported,” A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace, told mediapersons on the sidelines of an industry consortium meet here today.

Russia, which holds 49.5 per cent stake in the joint venture, has indicated its willingness to allow export of the missile, while India is yet to take a decision on this.

Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, speaking at the consortium meet, also said many countries had shown interest (in the missile). He felt India and Russia should explore the possibility of using this opportunity to export the system to select and friendly countries.

He was optimistic that the production order for BrahMos would rise from the current $7 billion to $10 billion by 2015.

How can we call brahmose to be the first supersonic cruise missile when there are others ?
one is P-800 Oniks itself, based on which brahmose is developed.

AFAIK it was the Russian side that objected to any sort of exports to a third party.

Export to a third party????now thats something to cheer about.. I think it'll be Malaysia..

:D can anyone tell me how many piece india gonna buy in total?

Interestingly, INdonesia got some Yakhont from Russia to put on - at least one of - their ex-Dutch frigates....

I am still waiting for the UCAV version!!

Still Brahmos Weighs twice as that of a Tomahawk....Even if the missile looses fuel the inertial velocity will make it go on lets say more than 300+!! the kinectic energy will drop!! But even if they set the altitude high there will be a substantial increase in range looking at the "C" maneuver it makes!! That would increase the on cruise kinetic energy too!!

Can anybody provide the details on which fuel it uses for the liquid-fueled ramjet??? I suspect Kerosene like p-800
