India’s Air Force to get 40 strike fighters with BrahMos missiles

Are you stupid or what?

CM-400AKG is a hypersonic land-attack missile...whats the fulling here?

The CM-400AKG supersonic cruise missile designed by Aviation Industry Corporation of China — an export version of China's YJ-12 anti-ship missile — can be used successfully against India's aircraft carrier when launched by Pakistan's JF-17 Thunder fighter, reports the Moscow-based Russian Military Analysis website.

The CM-400AKG was demonstrated to the public for the first time during the Zhuhai airshow last year. The YJ-12 was originally designed to be used against multiple targets including US aircraft carriers with a combat range of 500 kilometers and can be carried by various platforms such as bombers like the H-6 and JH-7, fighter jets such as the J-11B, J-15, J-16 and Su-30MKK and Type 052D destroyers. However, the range of the CM-400AKG has been reduced to 250 kilometers to meet export restrictions of the international Missile Technology Control Regime.

Only hyper sonic anti-ship missile till date is CHINA'S DF-21D

. .
Its supersonic only in its terminal phase.

And do u even know what hypersonic means?

U guys come to a technical forum to bullshit, nothing else

It is hypersonic (Mach 4+) in terminal stage. It is "you guys" who come to technical forums and spout bullshit and then give sources like "wantchina.com"

The diff is that cm-400 has a solid rocket motor fuel instead of ramjet of y-22 and reduced range of 180 km.

Rest speed apparently remains same

Pakistan acquires air-launched SOM capability - Jane's Missiles and Rockets

The weapon, designated CM-400AKG, is said to be a land-attack variant of the CASIC C-802 (YJ-82) anti-ship missile
which has already been integrated on the JF-17. Jane's assesses that 'CM-400AKG' is, therefore, an export label for the CM-802AKG land-attack weapon that was first seen at the November 2010 Air Show China event.

There seems to be a lot mixed up in this one article.

1) the IAF has contracted 40 MKIs under the last batch to be Super Su-30MKIs with structural modifications to allow them to carry and fire one air-launched version of the Brahmos (this air-launched version is pretty much the full size land/sea launched Bhramos) from the centreline of the fighter. the remaining 230 or so MKIs will be upgraded to the SUPER standard but won't have these structural modifications.

2) Bhramos aerospace is developing the Bhramos-M:

brahmos-M700.jpg

This is a smaller and lighter version of the air-launched Brahmos that will able to be carried and launched from platforms like the IAF's MiG-29 UPG and Rafales and the IN's MiG-29K/KUBs. The MKI being able to carry 3 such missiles (one on each wing and one along the centreline).

What does this even mean?? I'm assuming that just means the full-size air-launched version as opposed tot he BRAHMOS-M

but the wording is just horrific.

This is interesting, I wonder how true this is. What business would the IAF have in ordering their own land-based Brahmos? This is entirely the IA's domain. I'm skeptical for this reason....

@sancho @Dillinger thoughts? on my last point particularly.

But according to sources it does not ahve booster as it is air launched, weighs 2.55 tons and instead of standard 200 KG warhead carries 300 KG warhead, according to sources.

True, unless the Brahmos M is closer to be reality than expected and they directly switch to it and don't go for the version based on the normal Brahmos.

1)the remaining 230 or so MKIs will be upgraded to the SUPER standard but won't have these structural modifications.

Based on? The ability to carry Brahmos itself is part of the upgrade, which means all upgraded fighters should get it too. Operationally it also would not make sense to limit only the new fighters to Brahmos, since cruise missile capability is not only needed at a certain area, around 1 or 2 air bases, but all around India. Even the newly raised MKIs squads around the Bay of Bengal should have a high priority to have this capability, as part of the maritime attack roles, let alone what they are meant to do at the eastern or western borders.

I have some doubts on that, the UPG will definitely not able to carry them, because it still has the old airframe which can carry less loads, has lower thrust engines and would not be able to carry fuel tanks on the wings anymore. The Ks don't have these limitations, but using them from a STOBAR carrier, with such heavy loads will be a huge problem. Mr Pillai is making PR for the missile, but that doesn't mean everything he says will be reality in the forces.

My guess is, that he or the author meant maritime attack versions with "ship based", while the later statement might talk about land attack versions and not "land based".

I thought this too, I was under the impression that the Super Upgrade including such modifications to launch the air-launched Brahmos. However I was simply basing my assertion on what is contained within this article. If I had to guess I would think this capability was being added to every single MKI.

.
Yes. In China.

PAF already has this weapon on board.

Vice-director of JF-17 already confirmed it. Read my reply to Jarves

Is there atleast a video or a picture of the test?

Iranian officials say they have test-flown a 5th generation fighter.

Normal rocket Missile can not be as light inweight as RAM or SCRAM Engine missile since they carry oxidizer. If Chines missile have to be comparable to Brahmos in range and payload, It will weigh at least one ton more in weight. So all this BS of Very long range with Hypersonic speed and huge warhead is a complete nonsense.
