The UCAV feature was something that Abdul Kalam proposed. I think the Brahmos 2 is gonna be a normal missile.

The UCAV thing will not be the only thing developed.

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, an aerospace engineer and former President of India, asked the BrahMos Aerospace to develop an advanced version of the BrahMos cruise missile to maintain India's lead in the field. He stated

“You should develop a hypersonic version of BrahMos which can be reused meaning that the missile should be able to deliver its payload and return to base. This will help in maintaining our leadership in this arena. ”
This would turn Brahmos into an UCAV.

Don't think so, it has to be something in the lines of what APJ proposed and possibly similar to X51.

Russians have already tested it with TOPOL as a launch vehicle!!

What one can look at is the trajectory achieved by the DF 21 ASBM which has similar speeds and low terminal trajectory.



Brahmos 1 takes 2.5 minutes from launch to destination of 290 KM.

2.5 min, cannot. Mach 3 ~ 1 kmps.

To travel 290 km at 1 kmps, it needs 290 secs ~ 5 mins.

For a missile to accelerate, change height, maneuver etc, it will take more than 5 mins. Do the maths yourself, you will know.

The BrahMos-II will be a plain anti-ship cruise missile in the beginning, deployed on the 4 Project-15B
destroyers in the start. Remaining variants will come later.

Scramjet engine was ground tested according to wiki .

that is the beauty of it ! imagine su-30mki carrying brahmos-2 anywhere in vicinty of enemy and brahmos-2 delivers payload at enemy's doorstep and back for next mission ! a UCAV that is carried by an aircraft is hell of a concept !
