Boy files PIL in Pak against making Islamic studies a must

ISLAMABAD: A Hindu boy has filed a petition in a Pakistani court challenging a rule that stipulates a student must have a certificate in Islamic studies to be eligible to appear for entrance tests to medical colleges.

A division bench of the Sindh High Court admitted Sagar Ladhani's petition on Friday and provisionally allowed him to appear in an upcoming test for admission to an MBBS course. In his petition, Ladhani challenged the rule that students have to study "Islamiat" at the O-level to get an equivalence certificate from local education boards to appear in entrance tests for medical colleges.

The bench issued notices to the federal and provincial education secretaries , inter-board committee of chairmen, Dow University of Medical and Health Sciences, national testing service and provincial and federal law officers to submit their response to the petition. Ladhani's lawyer said that his client had completed his O and A-levels from the University of Cambridge through a local private schooling system.

there is no such certificate required from NoN Muslims,
I as some one who took O and A certificated from Oxford and Cambridge and took these tests, and studied with non Muslims know this for a fact.
All you need to do is attach a copy of your national ID card, which clearly says you are non Muslim.

However Pakistan Studies is a must for entrance into Bachelors Degree.

Not sure where did he invent this from. Islamic studies can be exchanged with Civic studies without any excuse of hindrance. Even many Muslim opt our of Islamic studies as it is a very basic and boring subject taught out necessity and very little actual use. The biggest hindrance with annoys many students against Islamic studies is writing super long useless essays. There are many non-muslim doctors in Pakistan but toilet media has a day declaring Pakistan equivalent of Taliban era Afghanistan in their imaginations. Instead of concentrating so much energy on Pakistan, they should try better effort in education Indians against pagan superstitions which keeps billionaires out of their dream home.

there is no such certificate required from NoN Muslims,

I haven't studied in Pakistan but most of my cousins have. And my cousins who are Christian did not study Islamic Studies. Non Muslims are not required to study it.

I think there's a terrible confusion amongst members here... Well, after matriculation a student decides one out many subject combinations. There are two types of Islamic subjects - One is called Islamic studies that every combination includes and the other is called Islamic studies optional that a student chooses himself (often a choice in non-science combinations). Studying Islamic studies (optional) is like studying Add Maths in GCE.

I remember I had a Christian mate in my class and he always used to score maximum in Islamic studies... Interesting!!.. It might be very interesting for some Indian fellows to know that ex Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Rana Bhagwan Das bears a masters degree in Islamic studies..

And yes a student has to provide a IBCC equivalence certificate if he/she has passed A-levels in lieu of FSC.. Contents of the certificate varies with the requirements of amplitude test.

No such certificate is required by non-Muslims and in some cases even Muslims. To complete his 8 or so subjects he could have taken any extra subject in O' Levels.
