Boy files PIL in Pak against making Islamic studies a must

ISLAMABAD: A Hindu boy has filed a petition in a Pakistani court challenging a rule that stipulates a student must have a certificate in Islamic studies to be eligible to appear for entrance tests to medical colleges.

A division bench of the Sindh High Court admitted Sagar Ladhani's petition on Friday and provisionally allowed him to appear in an upcoming test for admission to an MBBS course. In his petition, Ladhani challenged the rule that students have to study "Islamiat" at the O-level to get an equivalence certificate from local education boards to appear in entrance tests for medical colleges.

The bench issued notices to the federal and provincial education secretaries , inter-board committee of chairmen, Dow University of Medical and Health Sciences, national testing service and provincial and federal law officers to submit their response to the petition. Ladhani's lawyer said that his client had completed his O and A-levels from the University of Cambridge through a local private schooling system.

TOI will get a *** wipe on this one !

there is no such certificate required from NoN Muslims,
I as some one who took O and A certificated from Oxford and Cambridge and took these tests, and studied with non Muslims know this for a fact.
All you need to do is attach a copy of your national ID card, which clearly says you are non Muslim.

However Pakistan Studies is a must for entrance into Bachelors Degree.

Not sure where did he invent this from. Islamic studies can be exchanged with Civic studies without any excuse of hindrance. Even many Muslim opt our of Islamic studies as it is a very basic and boring subject taught out necessity and very little actual use. The biggest hindrance with annoys many students against Islamic studies is writing super long useless essays. There are many non-muslim doctors in Pakistan but toilet media has a day declaring Pakistan equivalent of Taliban era Afghanistan in their imaginations. Instead of concentrating so much energy on Pakistan, they should try better effort in education Indians against pagan superstitions which keeps billionaires out of their dream home.

ooooooooohhhh man what a fake, islamiyat is not compulsary for non muslims

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If you know this, the Judge did not, who ordered the following:

The bench issued notices to the federal and provincial education secretaries , inter-board committee of chairmen, Dow University of Medical and Health Sciences, national testing service and provincial and federal law officers to submit their response to the petition

May be you didn't bother to check pakistani newspaper saying the same thing. But here, I will save you the bother.

"What Sagar Ladhani came up against, like many other students, was a hitch in the system that doesn’t factor in religious minorities other than Christians. In order to apply to medical school O’ and A’ Level students need an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). But you can only get that certificate if you have either taken Islamiyat or Bible studies. For students like Sagar, there is no other subject." <<< From PAK Tribune

"The petitioner stated that the subjects of religious studies, prescribed in the O level syllabus, were Islamic Religious Culture and Islamiat for Muslim students and Religious Studies and Bible for Christian students. However, he added, there was no subject in the O level curriculum for the students belonging to other religious minorities, including the Hindus." <<<< From DAWN

And last time I looked they were both Pak newspapers, not Indian. So get back to the news.

Well this is something new to me as well. Looks like something strange with this news.

Then, perhaps, the boy should have filed PIL against the British education system for not including other subjects to facilitate Non-Muslims & Non-Christians. I was educated in the local system and my fellow Christian & Hindu students opted for civic studies instead of Islamic studies as was their right so you my friend need to wait for the response from the education minister/secretary and the final verdict.

Why should a British board, which is secular, include a religious subject?

I haven't studied in Pakistan but most of my cousins have. And my cousins who are Christian did not study Islamic Studies. Non Muslims are not required to study it.

. .
I think there's a terrible confusion amongst members here... Well, after matriculation a student decides one out many subject combinations. There are two types of Islamic subjects - One is called Islamic studies that every combination includes and the other is called Islamic studies optional that a student chooses himself (often a choice in non-science combinations). Studying Islamic studies (optional) is like studying Add Maths in GCE.

I remember I had a Christian mate in my class and he always used to score maximum in Islamic studies... Interesting!!.. It might be very interesting for some Indian fellows to know that ex Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Rana Bhagwan Das bears a masters degree in Islamic studies..

And yes a student has to provide a IBCC equivalence certificate if he/she has passed A-levels in lieu of FSC.. Contents of the certificate varies with the requirements of amplitude test.

BTW this issue has been solved now..Minority student allowed to take MBBS entry test | Metropolitan | DAWN.COM

No such certificate is required by non-Muslims and in some cases even Muslims. To complete his 8 or so subjects he could have taken any extra subject in O' Levels.
