All I can say is Thank God Almighty you aren't involved in military planning or threat assessment.

as he say his Role model is Muhammad Peace be up on him, I wish they ( all Generals/Politicians ) have 5% of the Qualities our Prophet has .. this country would not be in such sorry state , but its very to the point Interview, my confusion is when he say Chinese / Russian option , does he meant for 5th Gen or another 4+ Gen Aircraft ?

The russian option is being "looked" at for the 4.5 generation system but we might not get it from Russia.

It might be delayed but either a J-11 variant or a J-something Su-35ish system.

There was a casual mention of "Soo- 35 China ke through mangane ka soch rahe hain" but that is verbatim from a Horse I cannot name or verify accuracy of info

Farkhor has seen a few Mi 8 but the current status is unknown. Ayni lease is still being negotiated.

So a threat does exist irrespective of what assets are deployed there. It would automatically be taken into any strategic planning, ignoring it may not be possible neither for military nor at government level.
Russian border troops were stationed along the Tajik–Afghan border until summer 2005. Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, French troops have been stationed at the Dushanbe Airport in support of air operations of NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. United States Army and Marine Corps personnel periodically visit Tajikistan to conduct joint training missions of up to several weeks duration. The Government of India rebuilt the Ayni Air Base, a military airport located 15 km southwest of Dushanbe, at a cost of $70 million, completing the repairs in September 2010.[40] It is now the main base of the Tajikistan air force. There have been talks with Russia concerning use of the Ayni facility,[41] and Russia continues to maintain a large base on the outskirts of Dushanbe.[42]

In 2010, there were concerns among Tajik officials that Islamic militarism in the east of the country was on the rise following the escape of 25 militants from a Tajik prison in August, an ambush that killed 28 Tajik soldiers in the Rasht Valley in September,[43] and another ambush in the valley in October that killed 30 soldiers,[44] followed by fighting outside Gharm that left 3 militants dead. To date the country's Interior Ministry asserts that the central government maintains full control over the country's east, and the military operation in the Rasht Valley was concluded in November 2010.[45] However, fighting erupted again in July 2012.[46] In 2015, Russia sent more troops to Tajikistan.[47]

In May 2015, Tajikistan's national security suffered a serious setback when Colonel Gulmurod Khalimov, commander of the special-purpose police unit (OMON) of the Interior Ministry, defected to the Islamic State.[48]

Ayni Air Force Base, also known as Gissar Air Base, is a military air base in Tajikistan, just 10 km west of the capital Dushanbe.[1]

During the Cold War era, Ayni served as a major military base of the Soviet Union. However, following Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, the base's infrastructure deteriorated significantly. Between 2002 and 2010, India spent nearly US$70 million to renovate the air base — the runway was extended to 3,200 meters and state-of-the-art navigational and air defense equipment were installed.[2][3] It was speculated by some media outlets that India was keen on establishing a military base in Ayni so as to gain a strategic foothold in Central Asia.[3]

In January 2011, Tajik Foreign Minister, Hamrohan Zarifi, officially launched negotiations with Russia to discuss possible deployment of Russian military at Ayni. Zarifi also ruled out deployment of Indian or American forces at Ayni.[4]

Would be great to obtain some J-16? With nice PL-15 and PL-10. Maybe have JF-17s carry PL-10? Hopefully with some sort of HMS at some point?

So Russian option ( no matter ) which jet, was more than rumor ...you think Mig-35's will have a chance ?

I think Chinese J-11D or J-16 option was better option as there wont be string attached and no Indian influence can ruined the deal ..

I think this getting Su-35 from China was mentioned by a Chinese member but people didn't take it serious .

Russia
4.5th generation = Sukhoi Su-35, Mikoyan aircraft-carrier based MiG-29K / front-line MiG-29M and Mig-35 fighters
5th generation = Sukhoi PAK-FA, Mikoyan LMFS (MiG-1.27)

China
4.5th generation = Shenyang J-16
5th generation = Chengdu J-20, Shenyang J-31

Turkey
5th generation = TAI TFX.

Considering Turkey is also included, I'm inclined to think 5th generation. But, considering PAK-FA will serve as the basis for the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) being co-developed by Sukhoi and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force, I'm more inclined to think 4.5th generation (unless LMFS comes to fruition).

I know this is ultra-speculative. No basis on info.

But I wouldn't be surprised if some novel PAF driven project with CAC for a 5th generation had some input from the Russians in the form of the LMFS.

Hi,

What happened in 2005 earthquake---the donations were looted and plundered by the politicians and govt employees---.

If the ACM's mpother was dying of cancer and the medicine became available in october 2001----he would not have waited till 2005.

So---please kindly stop this sob story about earthquake---.

The truth is that out of sheer incompetence PAF assessed that the threat of war with india had diminished---and the money spent on the new F16's or any other aircraft would be a waste---that is why they did not buy an aircraft immediately after 9/11.

The Paf's ACM and planners got suckered in by india's ruse---.

No---what I am saying is that they fckd up by not going for the Rafale---that would have been a coupe de grace on india---. Rafale was the best after the 5th gen and india would have nowhere to go but russia---.

The M2k's was an old issue.

well cry over the past all you want, it aint gonna change a thing. why? its the past.

but do you know what can change? the future.

corruption is everywhere in every country but vary in scale some more than others and vice versa.

what exactly are you going to do about it? nothing.............

sit back in the usa, soak the sun, sip on some drink, watch sports, and dont give two hoots about anything else.

if the world burns, so what, you didn't do a thing and that's all that matters.

seems like PAF is still confused .. they want another 4+ Gen Air craft but they are getting watery mouth over 5th Generations , why i am more inclined for another 4+ gen Air craft , as we have a huge number of Planes to retire in coming years and based on roles , JF can not replace everything, specially Deep strike Roles ..they manage to put AntiShip missile over JF but it wont be much of a good as JF wont have much range to target IN ships block out Shores from a distance , we need flankers for that very role ..if Oscar is right and there is a Chance for J-series , it will help Pakistan a lot ..Russian wont sell anything Significant to PAF , not for now it seems and TF-X is still 5-8 years ahead ..

They need something to in due course replace F-16 with, and beyond that JF-17.

There are a few issues at play.

Of course the political with access to actual 5th gen aircraft as well as the ever present budget issues.

Notable with the introduction of the 5th gen platform is that countries can not replace aircraft on a 1:1 basis with 5th gen.

So 4th and 4th+ gen aircraft need to be there to be the "meat" of the air fleet while the 5th gen is the bleeding edge.

It would be wise to examine how the USAF and Israeli AF will utilize their F-35 and employ them with upgraded versions of the F-15 and F-16.
