Airbus is an equal competitor and offers a worthy airplane in each category that is either equal or even better in capabilities. Furthermore, A-380 is the biggest passenger airplane in the world which beat Boeing 747 by an easy margin.

Bhai EU is much better in terms of keeping its promises so Iran should have gone Airbus. They can still try but I'm not sure if the deal can be signed but EU is staying in the nuke deal so if Iran plays its cards right, they may still get Airbus 350 XWB is a beautiful airplane and new A-330, A-321 neo engines are very fuel efficient.

Thats in fact what iran did do back during ahmadinejads presidency,iran was going to order the tu204sm,which was an excellent aircraft that was very comparable in every respect with its western equivalents,however there was one big problem and that was that russia would not supply the tu204sm with the a2 version of the ps-90 turbofan,which unfortunately used some western components and which effectively gave the west a veto over these engine sales and since at that point the russians and the west were still the very bestest of bestest friends forever the russians were just not willing to call the wests bluff on the issue,so despite this being probably the only single viable opportunity for the russians to get airliner production off of life support they preferred instead to very stupidly squander this unique opportunity in the name of russia-western relations.
Ultimately the russians did seem to realise what complete utter idiots they`d been and decided to redesign the ps90 this time using only indigenous components to produce the ps90-a3 version in the hope that perhaps the deal could still be salvaged,unfortunately this all took too long to do and by then rouhani was in power and preferred to try and do business with the west,a good example of this being rouhani preferring to buy atrs rather than the sukhoi superjet even tho it was cheaper and the russians had offered the possibility of co-production of components and local assembly/production to iran.
In fact right after the signing of the jcpoa the russians were unbelievably even still talking about the possibility of reviving the ahmadinejad era deal of buying the tu204sm or even local assembly/production which at the time I thought was actually completely laughable under the circumstances as,in theory at least,iran could now buy airbuses,tho with the complete collapse of the deal now looking ever more likely it seems as tho rouhani and co may ultimately have no choice but to revive the ahmadinejad era deal for the purchase of the tu204sm[LOL!],which I imagine is something they must truly hate the prospect of.

The russian government still continues to purchase and operate both the TU-204 and the IL-96 and in fact putins own presidential aircraft is an IL-96-300PU,so it would seem rather funny that the most important man in russia and one of the most powerful men in the entire world would still use a "fltying coffiins"[I suspect you meant "flying coffin"] if he didnt have a lot of faith in it,right?

Of course aircraft parts are sanctioned,they`re produced by the same companies that build the planes,so if they wont sell them planes on the grounds of public safety then they sure as hell wont sell them spares.

iran needs to offer a deal which they cant refuse, if iran goes all in it will be offered even license or joint ventures, after all we are looking at 30 billion dollars+ market which is completely untapped!
