Boeing Offers F/A 18 Naval Variant for Indian Navy Fighter Jet Requirement

In my opinion we should not go for F/A-18 naval variant.

Though I agree that F/A-18 is very good for IN,providing maintenance and cost issues for MIG-29k,Naval-Tejas,Naval-FGFA/Naval-PAK-FA
the SuperHornet its the only proven war plane in that list, all other planes have not made it out of dream land as of yet...:usflag:

Guess the bug has been booted out of MRCA which is why Boeing is going for other contracts. :P

Its a fine jet but too risky. We already will have diverse fleet in the coming decade with MiGs and Tejas; adding another foreign fighter will put our industrial research 1 decade back. I think we should work on Navalizing the PAKFA/FGFA.

Heard that Russians are also interested in the modification so maybe if we can wait out a bit longer (as if we aren't used to that (wink wink; delays)), I think we can get a 5G fighter that would perform much better than any 4.5G has to offer.

Agreed sir. But MiG-29 (AF versions) have seen action and are sufficiently combat proven. Also, if we don't give new jets a chance, how will we make them combat proven?

SH is a cool jet I agree; but IMO we would be better off at navalizing a platform that has our contribution in it; to move faster in indigenizing our defense products.

I guess having MRCA, Naval and Tejas using the same GE engines will be too diverse?..:undecided:

you need to induct PAKFA first then later FGFA and even later try make it naval worthy...:azn: Guess what? SH its already Ready for that role...:yahoo: china wont have anything close to it for the foreseeable future..

the Cobra design its an evolving design(none generational design), the correct name for the evolving design its: Spiral Development

from the Northrop N-300(grand daddy of India´s Next MMRCA)

Northrop P-530(05) later evolved to the P-600 AKA YF-117

you get the point...;)

Block 3 SuperHornet will be a 4.75 gen War Plane, and future upgrades from Boin's 6th gen Air Superiority fighter will keep the Cobra design 30 years from now as deadly as it is today...:usflag:

.
if the F 18 gets MMRCA tender, then this will be a good option otherwise its better to go for F 35 ...

guys beleive me F-18/F-16 wont get the MMRCA tender. too much is at stake and i think our MOD/IAF guys would not want their bulk of the fighters to be at the mercy of US. US items come with lots of IFs and BUTs.

IMO eurofighter is the best bet in the race. Mig 35 is still under development so i guess it will be at a disadvantage as compared to others. Rafale is too expensive. that leaves only grippen and eurofighter. thats why i chose euro fighter.

i think a naval fleet of mig-29s, sea harriers, Naval LCA and F-18s (one squadron) would be ideal for IN. f-35 is too expensive. we might not go in for that.

.
its not exactly true and F/A 18E/F block 3 still very much in contest for IN ,SO is Rafale M.. FGFA IS TOO BIG TO Be NAVALISED IT MEANS LESS NO.OF AIRCRAFTS ON INDIAN AIRCRAFT CARRIER,ITS a 38TON HUNK GOD DAMN! ! OR EITHER WE CAN GO FOR F-35C IF WE ONLY LOOKING FOR 5THGENERATION AIRCRAFT.

.
We indians don't want american biased agreements(euma - done, LSA, CISMOA ) to be signed. We need operational flexibility and protection of our communication data..
i support rafale and typhoon and wish MOD will choose any of them.

.
If we take our IAC 2 AS 65000+TON CLASS WITH EMAL .. Then it can hold a maximum of 45-48aircrafts +10helicopters including ASW and Multiutility...

.
But the point is our armed forces want the best and we can talk to US and set our terms. If they going to offer F/A 18block3 for mmrca then i would like have it on my side! ! Thi
s is 4.75gen folks.

Depends on what you mean by that! Yes the SH was used in more wars, but that's because the US is going to war so often, be it neccesary or not.
But that doesn't mean that the Super Hornet is the only proven carrier fighter with an operational history:

...The first Rafale deployed in a combat zone were those of the French Navy during Opération Héraclès, the French participation in "Operation Enduring Freedom". They flew from the Charles de Gaulle over Afghanistan as early as 2002, but the F1 standard precluded air-to-ground missions and the Rafale did not see any action.

In June 2002, according to several reports, while Charles de Gaulle was in the Arabian Sea, armed Rafale fighters participated in interposition patrols near the India-Pakistan border, marking a significant point in the Rafale M's operational career and its integration with the carrier. A number of sources have speculated on the exact nature and purpose of these flights.[28]...

i think India bought enough of American stuff ..that also downgraded one.
its time we get something we have 100% freedom of the things we pay for..

Please don't compare the Evolving design of the F-18(cobra) platform to the out dated F-16 design..:disagree:

IMO eurofighter is the best bet..
Not for Naval duties..;)

Really?..
What's your point? the USA had the F-14D super tomcat..:undecided: a heavy weight dedicated carrier war plane.. I am sure India wants a medium multirole top of the line proven air craft..! and Nothing come close to the Super Hornet..:usflag:

My point is that heavy carrier fighters are possible of course and it is more than obvious that Russian and Indian navy will go for them in future.
However, your requirements fit perfectly for the actual carrier fighter competition and MMRCA! Why should India opt for a heavy weight dedicted carrier war plane (F18SH)? I am also sure we want a medium multi role top of the line proven aircraft (Rafale) ! ! ! :D

dedicated heavy fighters for navy are a no no for USA why would they be for India?

are you questioning the Medium size of the SH? F-14 and Flankers are heavy, SuperHornet its Not..
