True, as recent spate of violence in sub-continent has shown, children have become easy targets for extremists, after security agencies have started to adopt specific strategies against them.
It also tells how desperate morons adopting violence are to keep them relevant (not to mention news headlines). They are after blood and body count, i guess no society should show any mercy in dealing with elements like these, irrespective of their agenda.

The Centre is rushing an additional 5,000 paramilitary troops to Assam, where a series of attacks by suspected Bodo militants of NDFB-S faction have left over 50 people dead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over loss of lives in Assam militant attacks and sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each of the seriously injured.

An amount of Rs 86 lakh is being released to the state government from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), a PMO statement said.


IGP (Law and Order) SN Singh told PTI that the death toll had risen to 62 with 37 deaths in Sonitpur and 25 in Kokrajhar after heavily armed militants belonging to the Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) swooped down on the four remote Adivasi villages of the two districts and killed the inhabitants last evening.

Their attack abilities need to be diminished and their morale needs to be destroyed as well. imagine how their fighters will feel when they hear dozens of their comrades have been killed but they couldn't lay a scratch against the force they are fighting.

Anyone who attack unarmed, innocent people is already demoralized. Security Forces who per report have killed 40-50 terrorists will flush out remaining soon. This incident will strengthen their resolve.

Indefinite curfew was clamped in the area lying under four police stations of Sonitpur district.

Militants killed atleast 55 people on Tuesday in Assam's Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts.

Speaking to the press, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he will be leaving for Assam at around 4pm to take stock of the situation.

"I will leave around 4 pm for Assam. The government condemns the brutal and cowardly attacks," Rajnath Singh said.

3 Adivasi protesters die in police firing in Sonitpur district
The death toll in Tuesday night’s terror attacks by militants of the National Democratic Front ofBoroland (Songbijit) on Adivasi villages and in retaliatory attacks by miscreants among the Adivasis in Assam’s Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Chirang and Udalguri districts has gone up to 72.

Meanwhile, three Adivasi protesters died in police firing in Sonitpur district on Wednesday. Indefinite curfew has been clamped and Army troops have been deployed in affected areas to assist the civil administration and the Assam Police.

Army copters mounted surveillance as the situation escalated and triggered an exodus of several thousand people belonging to both the Bodos and the Adivasis.

Rajnath arrives

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived here on Wednesday night, reviewed the situation following the NDFB (S) terror attacks and retaliatory violence in Assam.

The review meeting was attended by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Joel Oram, top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Army, Assam Police, intelligence agencies, and central paramilitary forces.

The Chief Minister sought a probe by the National Investigation Agency and this was accepted by Mr. Rajnath Singh.

Mr. Singh said the Centre would send 55 additional companies to help the State government deal with the situation. Both Mr. Singh and Mr. Gogoi will visit the affected areas on Thursday.

Authorities said of the 72 killed in the violence — 40 died in Sonitpur district, 30 in Kokrajhar district and two in Chirang district; 67 of them were Adivasis and five Bodos. The victims included 21 women and 18 children. The bodies of most of the victims were still to be handed over to the family members.

Earlier in the day addressing a press conference, Mr. Gogoi termed the killing of innocent persons “most heinous, most cowardly and most barbaric.”

Ex gratia announced

The Assam government announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the militant carnage; Rs. 50,000 will be given to all those injured.
