BNP calls in all candidates with sheaf of paddy to Dhaka

Army were deployed as consoling price for opposition their duty was to petrol the street not quelling the violence. if they had taken action against vote rigging happened before 30th dec. then we could see some differences but they were handicapped .
I was not in the field but considering the mindset of our politicians/people I would say the vote rigging was done in the following methods:
1) Vote boxes were stuffed with false ballot papers in the late night or early morning.
2) Many voters were obstructed or bullied on their way to voting centers. Their votes were already stuffed earlier.
3) Military and Police were just standby to watch over any extreme things happening and are recorded in video.
4) As far as I understand the mobile service was almost non-existent on the voting day. Newspapermen and others could not communicate or send pictures and data.

A fair election is not possible unless it is under a caretaker govt chaired by a former/sitting SC Judge.

UN security forces

Should UN have similarly intervened when Musharraf did his coup and ejected a democratically elected govt?

Not going to work out. Police will find more witness saying that 'nothing irregular happened'....

If you can make the presiding officers as witnesses, then it will get some credibility, but I doubt you will get presiding officers to testify. Not to mention, these days Awami league run the court.

Windu: The senate will decide your fate...

Palpatine: I AM the senate...

.
you can read the experience of presiding officer and polling agent in other thread i post .
Well, I did...but one or two presiding officers won't do. There are like 40,000 voting centers in 300 constituencies. You will need at least a thousand presiding officers to directly testify in courts. Good luck doing that.

. . .
I have learned that BNP is looking to challenge the validity of this election in the court. Will this do bear any fruit?
Take advice from Imran.. Pakistani elections of 2013 were 100 times more clean (but still a lot of irregularities occurred), but still he dragged everyone to court..

A mistake he made in the ToR for courts investigation, that the parties asked court to investigate "organized rigging" only.. Imran couldn't win the case because he couldn't prove organized rigging.. So court declared the government as legit..

If BNP somehow is able to put a lot of pressure through street power (although I believe it will not be able to do that), then BAL will have to agree on ToRs for court's investigation.. in the ToRs, they must avoid "organized poll rigging" as the basis of declaring elections null and void (unless they have strong proofs, which they don't I believe).

It's a long struggle.. BNP and other opposition parties will have to fight for their rights in the next few years.. going to election commission which was part of the rigged elections won't work... and courts will not take up matter as they will say it's election commission to decide being an "independent body".

You guys will need to make ECB controversial first..

Finally I believe if BNP will not take oath, then BNP will be permanently vanished from Bangladeshi politics like muslim league. BNP took part in this election and this election is actually a massively rigged election. But since BNP participated and trapped, so now if they do not go and take oath in parliament and try to start movement on street again , then AL will have better chances to annihilated them, so that they energy ever can participate in election and other parties completely replace them.

@Skies , I would like to hear something from you about this. What is your opinion as a BNP supporter? What do you want ? Taking BNP oath in parliament, or not ?
@monitor what is your opinion about this?

@Nilgiri , your valuable opinion is request here. What is your stand on it ?

BNP should take oath and keep on participate in politics and wait for the good days. There is no other political party who can challenge them for no. 2 position. Like what Hasina said in the speech about BNP and advised them not to loose faith as there are plenty of example where a political party can come back dramatically.

Street protest is a thing of the past unless it is a people's movement like what we saw for Road Safety movement where govt is obliged to go soft. Any movement by BNP will be crashed with iron fist and most of their top will either end up in jail or disappear in thin air.

BNP would not had won the election no matter how fair it was. The difference is too much. BNP need at least 70% support base to defeat a sitting government considering the incumbent will use 100% of the state machinery in its favor. BNP is too weak now to face this.

---------------------------------------
The spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement on Monday said, “The United Nations is aware of violent incidents and reports of irregularities in the Bangladesh general election.”

The UN regretted the loss of life and injuries sustained by candidates and voters during the electoral campaign and on the voting day, it said.

---------------------------------------

“We are also concerned that election-day irregularities prevented some people from voting, which undermined faith in the electoral process.” Robert Palladino, deputy spokesperson of the US state department.

---------------------------------------

The EU said the mobilisation of voters and the participation of the opposition in the polls reflected the people's aspirations for democracy.

“However, violence has marred the election day, and significant obstacles to a level playing field remained in place throughout the process and have tainted the electoral campaign and the vote,” an EU spokesperson said in a statement yesterday.

Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy of the EU, in his statement said the relevant authorities should now ensure a proper examination of allegations of irregularities and commit to full transparency in their resolution.

Bogus elections: @PakSword @war&peace @django @Nilgiri , Elite Members of Pakistan Defence Forum..

Yes I agree with you.
BNP boycotted 2014 election , ordered violence yet we saw few BNP guys on street . Jamat acted as it's foor soldier. Now where is their ally jamat ? They even did not support when BNP wanted to start movement for Khaleda Zia .
If Al did not boycott 2014 election and still AL would oppress BNP folk then in the world it would be proven as oppression of opposition . But BNP was not in parliament , and was doing wrong in the name of movement and failed badly . They participate in this election , because they did not want to take risk of their registration as a political party .
So now if they will not take oath , AL will have strong reason to abuse them more . So at least if BNP can take oath , they can have a hope to prevail in future . As I still believe that they have massive support , and no less than AL .
They still can survive and later find a ground only if they compromise and not start violent movement .
And since 3 years we are observing that BNP is a statement only party .
So now the choice is their , they take oath and join in parliament , or go to street and implant the final nail in thier coffin .
Now who will ask BNP to move street again , can they save BNP from govt ? I doubt it !

So now it's up to BNP what they will decide . Take oath in parliament and try to recover , or start violence in street and wiped off completely .

I will leave this decision on @Skies and such fellows , as BNP is their party .

Whichever type of movement by people, it will serve the purpose somehow.. But I suspect BNP can't run any movement when the top leadership is in jail..

Yes , that's the reason BNP must take oath in parliament and will try to recover . But it's their choice . AL is not the mother of BNP that BNP will do hunger strike and AL will feed them. Khaleda zia and tareq is gone . Now BNP must make a new leadership material and it will not come overnight . This is a lengthy procedure. Finally Bengali need to understand that life is not a cheap budget hindi or bengali movie , where 1 hero is destroying the massive number of criminals and establishing justice .

Any movement challenging government existence will not be tolerated and people will not come out supporting it as nobody going to risk their life for corrupt and evil.
