Blast in Lahore’s Defence area kills 10, injures 30

LAHORE: At least 10 people were killed and another 30 injured in a blast in an under-construction building in Z-Block of DHA on Thursday, police said.
DIG Operations Haider Ashraf said the nature of the blast was being investigated, adding that it could be either the generator blast or some other reason as the building was under construction.
He said that it was a powerful explosion due to which the windowpanes of a restaurant, nearby buildings and parked vehicles were shattered, while cars and motorcycles parked outside the plaza were also damaged.
Soon after the explosion, teams of rescuers and army personnel reached the crime site and ferried the injured to General Hospital and Services Hospital. The Z-Block market was sealed and a search operation was initiated.
According to rescuers, the dead included Airlink Director Moazzam Paracha, Javed, Imran Ikram, Aslam, Shabbir and Habib. Among the injured shifted to the General Hospital and Services Hospital were Zeeshan, Aqib, Waseem, Tahir Abbas, Faisal, Adeel, Afzal, Ahmad Butt, Muhammad Mansha, Nasir, Riaz, Muhammad Hafeez, Sunny Khokhar, Asif, Muhammad Jamil, Arslan, Taseer Pervaiz, Waqar Qureshi and others.
TV footages showed bricks strewn in the popular commercial area. The shops surrounding the blast site were also damaged.
Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Khawaja Salman Rafique and Provincial Minister for Primary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir visited the hospitals to inquire after the injured of the blast.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said after the blast: “There was no reason (for terrorists) to target the building. I have been informed that plaza has not been inaugurated yet.”
People panicked as soon as the explosion was heard, and eyewitnesses described people evacuating buildings and running far away from the commercial area.
The report of the blast comes as cities across the Pakistan are on high alert after a wave of deadly terror attacks.
A day earlier, a massive urban counter-terrorism operation was announced by the military.
Government officially have declared it generator blast. Tweets have been shared in the same thread before.
