Its a PMC working to protect the staff and property of DOS and USAID. Sure they have purchased property for offices and safehouses but so has HART and Guarda... Just relax there is no "secret" move to take over Pakistan.
Do you really think that is in American interests within the region. Lets be broad minded about this for a moment.
Can you figure which Newspaper editor, and which Newspaper - clue: the newspaper has been the staunchest supporter of Nawaz and has gained a reputation for Anti-India and Anti-American views that polute the pages of the paper.
Newspaper editor rebuked for misusing ISI name
* Female editor told to refrain from claiming her views mirror those of military, intelligence leadership
ISLAMABAD: Security agencies have rebuked the female editor of a Lahore-based English daily after taking notice of a campaign allegedly launched against the government and its relations with a foreign country by journalists who claim to have been briefed on the matter by the army or intelligence agencies.
Last week, the investigators of one of the countrys leading intelligence agencies visited the newly-appointed female editor and demanded she furnish concrete evidence of her newspapers claims of US security contractor Blackwater operating in Pakistan.
The security officials, during a meeting that lasted more than an hour-and-a-half, found that she kept changing the names of the people who had provided her with the information when asked to substantiate her claims on Blackwaters alleged presence. A senior official who accompanied the investigators became very agitated by the claims, asking the editor to make sure she checks her facts before she publishes or comments on any reports.
No ties: The officials also told the editor to refrain from claiming close ties with the intelligence agencies and claiming as she did recently during a television programme - that her point of view was mirrored by the military or intelligence leadership. The sentiment has been echoed by the military leadership, which has criticised the tendency of a certain section of the media to attribute its claims to sources within the military or intelligence services. This has included the intelligence services stating that media reports of Blackwater operating in Pakistan are baseless. staff report
ResccueRanger,
As you said that there is no secret move, then could you explain that why Americans bringing more than 1,000 ppl as an embassy staff?
It shows that they have very strong interests in this region.
A country like Pakistan ( not that much big nor Americans have too much work in their embassy ) where they are bringing these ppl are of what use????
This is the point we have to think and find reasons ( not that which american embassedor give infront of media )!!!!!!!!!
Hope now you can understand.

Well i can answer that quite simply... Yes ofcourse the American's have an interest in Pakistan and the region, but it is not to use "Blackwater or Whatever" to take over Pakistan.
No!... It is the opposite, by flushing in US$ via USAID, education programs via US DOS and the like, winning the hearts and minds of the common folk of Pakistan with programs such as JSI PAIMAN.
Most of the staff you are mentioning are Auditors, Consultants and Specialists attached to USAID, yes of course some of them are Risk Assessors and Security Professionals but even if all 1000 were Ex Delta or Black Ops it would not pose the level of threat as presented in the Pakistani Media.
The reason you have a large number of American Staffers in Pakistan, simple ( Accountability for the amount of money the US send to Pakistan)
Pakistan is the second largest recipient of US Agricultural Aid annually measured at US$ 115 Million (Second only to Afghanistan). So it is justified that they like any responsible donor would like to keep tabs on where and how their money is spent.
FYI:
DAWN.COM | Pakistan | Half of US aid to be wastefully spent, says Tarin
http://www.usaid.gov/oig/public/fy04rpts/5-391-04-001-s.pdf
In Short:
If you want the US to reduce its presence in Pakistan, stop asking for its money! Period!
In todays warefare terminology, the quantity is not the key role, but the quality ( training, weapons, mobility, etc. )
I think if 200 ~300 american delta force or any other Special forces personel would come to Pakistan for any reason, this is a direct threat to Pakistan security.
You ask to stop demanding money from USA, then in this case we also have to stop the OPERATIONS ongoing in NORTH WEST PAKISTAN, so if we do that, then what will be the outcome every body knows.
As you explain the reason for Americans increasing their staff, and is explained by the Consulate General of America too, may be you forgot the example of EAST INDIA COMPANY that how they enter into this region.!!!!!!!!!!!
What ever the reason is, then why many time ISL Police captured Americans armed with Dangerous Weapons!!!!!
Can any body explain that.?
Why they Import the high caliber weapons through intel risk security company for guarding, as normal weapons available in Pakistan would also do the same JOB, and i think for guarding purpose, high caliber weapons are of no use but for attacking purpose its the best choice.!!!!!!!!!!!!
What ever the reason we give its only that we are calming ourselves that there is nothing wrong but remember when pegion see cat, he close his eye's and think that now every thing is OK...
