There are different groups within Tamil brahmins. Iyer and Iyengar are the major groups. There is one other major group that I don't recall. Swamy is an Iyer and they tend to be fair more often than not.

Many Hindu Indians have a sense they have to become a regional hegemon to end what they perceive as a millennium of humiliation. Which ever politician plays this element up is likely to win elections in India.

Germans had some kind of similar complex, of being ruled by outsiders and tried the militaristic route to try to achieve prosperity but failed. It was only as part of the EU (and the lead up to it) that they have achieved the prosperity that they have sought.
