A BJP member in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday mounted a sharp attack on Nepal, saying that despite being “weak”, it was seeking to “threaten” India due to backing by China. Raising the issue during zero hour, Nishikant Dubey also made a strong pitch for erecting a fence along the Indo-Nepal border like the ones along the boundaries with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Noting that Nepal has recalled its envoy to India, he alleged that it was a “conspiracy” to send back the Indian envoy in Kathmandu. He claimed that Nepal was tilting more towards China, which has been instrumental in spreading a “red corridor” from Pashupati to Tirupati in India.

He alleged that despite being “weak”, it was “threatening” India with the backing of China. Dubey said the porous border has turned Nepal into a “nerve centre” of anti-India forces which was witnessed also during the IC 814 hijack incident. Besides, India faces the problem of counterfeit currency His remarks including dubbing Nepal as “weak” were protested by several Congress members led by Jyotiradiyta Scindia, who reminded the ruling party that one does not speak in such a language about a neighbouring country.

This led to counter protests by the BJP with Dubey alleging that the “wrong” policies pursued by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi towards Nepal created the problem. Hitting back at Scindia, Dubey reminded him that Rajiv Gandhi had once effected blockade against Nepal creating problem for the Himalayan nation. The attack came in the backdrop of a slide in Indo-Nepal ties in recent months. The visit of Nepal’s President Bhidya Devi Bhandari to India was recently put off. Her government cancelled the trip amid the internal political turmoil in Nepal.

some ppl open their mouth only to puke.

.
Nepal politicians can abuse India because the cost of abusing India is very low.

India needs to raise the cost of such loose talk so that when ever they speak, they speak with respect. Ajit doval has his job cut out.

After all if we are weak or portray weakness, we deserve to be abused.

We give them all facilities and rights which the Indian citizen enjoys except voting rights,They are even employed in Government offices.
The open border, free trade and the civilizational links it has with us made us give them so many freebies and perks, if it thinks it can abuse such privileges that are normally entitled to Indian citizens, then Nepal is in for a big shock.
If you are going to cosy up with our enemies to show off your puffed up chest, then so be it,we are going to call your bluff.Don't blame us for what happens next.

You are right,Congress has long played silence with Foreign affairs,it made even the smallest puny neighbors think they can hurt India by acting big. They are way out of their league if they think that way.
Thank god for BJP it is setting the foreign policy in right direction.

Gurkhas are not specific to Nepal, they are present and live in different parts of North Eastern India,Assam,Bihar,West-Bengal ,UP,Orissa.
The Gurkha regiment in Army doesn't mean only gurkhas are present in that regiment,People from all over India are commissioned into different regiments.
The regiment just happens to have a gurkha name which the Britishers gave them in their colonial times and it was adopted same by the Indian Army.

Hindu majority India does all this and more for Muslim community and christian community in India.

Does that stop them from abusing Hindus, hindutva or Hinduism every time they can ?

The real world does not work on gratitude. It works on Fear and Respect.

I am not certain BJP is setting things right. For most parts BJP foreign policy w.r.t our neighbours have not given us enough results to praise them.

The only success story is BD and that is primarily due to BD's govts own effort.

The New govt. in SL too seems to be for better relations.

At least in case of Nepal we turn a blind eye, thinking them as a Sanatana Dharmic followers, but if they think, with a Maoist at it's helm, they can push India, then they will realize their folly.

Bjp has just started undoing the damage done by UPA with its "Acne on the face" foreign policy. It will take time to give results.

Nepal is our neighbour and we need to treat them with respect, but not at the cost of our own self respect.

I do not think we should mix religion into this. For most parts, they resent us for being Hindus and not helping them enough. They think that because India is Hindu majority we have an obligation to help them.

We do help them, but it is not sufficient. Its a complex relationship.

Best thing for us to do is to grow our economy and scientific talent. Everything will then more or less take care of itself.
