NEW DELHI – India’s former External Affairs minister Yashwant Sinha – who is also senior leader of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately call off talks between National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval – scheduled on August 23-24 in New Delhi.

Talking to the Press Trust of India news service, he also called for declaring Abdul Basit – Pakistan’s high commissioner to India – as persona non-grata for ‘crossing all lines’ of ‘diplomatic etiquette’ by inviting Kashmiri leaders. He believed that Sartaj-Doval talks would end up with opposite to Indian expectations of brokering peace with Pakistan.

He said that successive (Indian) prime ministers have cherished the thought of getting ‘Nobel Peace Award’ by resolving Indo-Pakistan disputes, in an apparent gibe at Modi. The hardliner leader of the Indian ruling party said that this was not the appropriate occasion for the talks.

“From the time of (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee government, it has been our policy that terror and talks cannot go together,” he said, adding that this was the consistent policy of the BJP as well. “I think the talks (with Pakistan) should be called off,” he said. He also accused Pakistan of ‘vitiating’ the atmosphere ahead of the talks between its security advisers.

. . . .
Yaa habibi you are more then welcome go on cancel the talks :-D

.
BJP ? Yashwant Sinha is a person not a political party...the guy has lost his weight in India..

.
India is the one who offered these talks, they'd lose credibility if Modi cancelled. Modi wont cancel.
Credibility with whom? Pakistan is testing the water.... lets see what the outcome is... NSA- talks are not focussed towards any policy decisions, so I don't see why it can't go on, where the NSA can register an official protest (although it wont mean jack)

It would show India is unserious about any sort of talks.

Pakistan isn't testing Modi or India, meeting Kashmiri leaders has been going on for decades, no reason to change that policy. If India is serious about peace, this should never affect it.

My hope is that this government will bring much needed clarity on rules of engagement. You know this very well that Pakistan can meet kashmiri leaders on their own meetings, or invite them to Islamabad for meets. There is no harm in it, here the intent is malicious, kashmiri separatist are not elected representatives. Hope was that if Pakistan wants to engage with India, it would respect India's reservations.

My opinion on the matter has been ample clear, diplomatic engagement with each other is a waste of time for both the parties at this point of time. And will remains for the next few year.It would have been prudent in utilizing our respective diplomatic capital elsewhere where the other party is receptive and can reciprocate positively.

kashmir kashmir everywhere kashmir pakistan ne india ka jeena haram ker diya :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yes thats right , its the pakistani credibility on the chopping block. They dont want to pull out and expose the real military govt which is running the country. So they try all the tricks to make india call of the talks like firing, talks with separatists, terror attacks ...etc.

Every one knows NSA talks will go now where but charade continues bcos if the talks are called off there will be international pressure to get back to the table. That pressure will be on civilian govt not military one. US asking nawaz shariff to continue with talks and shariff responding i am powerless "dehati aurat" will expose the military. The military govt in pakistan wants to portray modi as the far rightist who wants no talks. So modi govt plays back the game silently releasing hurriyat leaders and preparing dossier etc.

What happens next ? If the talks do happen and when it fails. India will portray pakistan as the villain as it is not doing any thing on 26/11 case. This in turn will bring US pressure back on pakistan.

Pakistan in turn will give all crap about afghanistan,balochistan....blah blah. So its a tug of war , who blinks first loses the game.

.
What a funny title.. 'BJP asks'. Yashwant Sinha is not BJP anymore.. He is part of margadarshak mandal just like Advani, MM Joshi etc. If anything comes out of these over 75s, just take it with a pinch of you know what.

At the end of the day, US pressure means nothing. If you want pressure you have to apply it.
