Bill Gates lauds Pakistan's efforts to eradicate polio

why is he so desperate for third world? maybe they need more resources of those countries ? why suddenly they care for Africa?

yaar! 3rd world is where population is growing at alrming rates. Many developed countries are losing population. Obviously a problem can only be solved where it originates!

after a while some people stop caring about personal wealth. The world as a whole matters to some people. His organization has done some great work in combating AIDS in India and some African countries too.

Only Pakistan and Afghanistan are Polio ridden. Even Nigeria has eradicated this disease.

The war in Afghanistan and the overspill into Pakistan has prevented us from eradicating the disease. And yes, Bill Gates has done lot of good in particular donating huge amounts to charities.

improving healthcare leads to a transient increase in fertility. But with better lives and security of their children, parents stop having many children. This trend has been observed in all parts of the world, and is one of the prime reasons why western countries have declining populations.
we see a similar trend in southern Indian states.

I think that has to do with greater access to better-quality education. Lack of education/awareness has been the biggest stumbling block in empowering people over heath/reproductive issues. Quality education is the missing link in the chain where access to family planning leads to lower birth rates. So Pakistanis need not worry, as the education scenario for women in Pakistan is not improving in the short term, with or without Malala.

Pakistan indeed did a commendable job and i hope they'll eradicate this disease from their country for good.

No, sorry to correct you on the education scenario in Pakistan. Progress is taking place. Of course there is long way to go yet. The example of Malala is in the extremis. The circumstances that applied to her are limited to the Afghan border area. Thus that 5% cannot be used to paint the rest of 95%.

As regards Polio as I said in my previous post the almost non stop war since Soviet invasion on Christmas day 1979 in Afghanistan and it's overspill into Pak border areas has made Polio eradication difficult. War and instability have negative effect across the spectrum. Malala Yousefzai is one such victim of that instability.

Btw I hope you don't mind me asking are you from Eire?

dude, I am a doctor myself. And what you have been reading is propaganda by people with too much time on their hands.
most of those assertions are unscientific.
AIDS affects everyone equally, regardless of race or social order( if you think the elites are doing this).
we have treatment to improve survivability by a decade and more in AIDS patients. If aids was designed to reduce population, they wouldn't have been producing such efficient ways to control the disease.
people with AIDS can still have children, and there are medications to drastically reduce its transmission to children.

this is a conspiracy theory, and you can easily verify it if you read medical journals/ text on the matter.

I have worked on NGO projects in both Pakistan as well as India. So you don't have to treat me like a tourist and hand me a brochure, really. Improvement in basic healthcare and education remains a problem in both countries, further compounded by conspiracy theories about vested interest. I was exhausted from my last stint (in Hyderabad and Nawabshah) but will be returning next year, hopefully. The challenges are more intense in Pakistan due to family opposition to female education, as opposed to India where poverty and lack of access are the primary concern. You can already see on this very forum that even on a simple subject such as polio eradication you have people claiming a global conspiracy! This is not the way forward, I am afraid.

Yes, I am Irish and currently in Frankfurt.

Sorry for having made some assumptions. Of course since your in the "know" then clearly what you say carries lot weight. It's just that we get lots of people preaching from afar and it can get tedious. You on the other hand have to be applauded for your efforts. Yes, unfortunately the blunt truth is religion is the problem. Too much religion is like sand grit getting into the inner workings of the engine. It ends up corrupting everything. Pakistan is a classic case. You being from Ireland will have slight idea of how religion can cause all sort of ill effects.

And I have been to your great country. I had great time there.

he works for david rockfeller, yes eugenic depopulation is the real agenda.

this shows that prime ministers dont kn ow sh it. except putin exkgb he put banned on gmo etc.

So what are you saying? The Polio drops have conspiracy theory viruses that will stop these kids from reproducing? I think the PM is much sharper than you give him credit for. Acting humble and low key doesn't mean someone is stupid. He's got something going for him, otherwise, people like YOU will be the PM of Pakistan, with the highest number of Polio cases as you won't allow it, thinking it has a conspiracy theory virus to "reduce population"

he say it HIMSELF REDUCTION OF POPULATION..

Really? But you are still alive, so is everyone on PDF that I saw yesterday and last week  :woot:   :cuckoo:

On a complete diversion (well, may be not that much) I have a question for you: I have the resources and many a times, the time, to travel on leisure but don't get the urge to use that to just go to some impoverished or disease stricken area and help people there. I end up donating to the causes and end up swigging malt some place nice. And end up feeling guilty about it later. What makes you tic differently?
