BGMEA asks Netflix to remove disrespectful dialogue on Bangladesh from 'The Last Mercenary'

This is a case of a heavy storm in a small teapot.

The dialogue says of the bulletproof tuxedo and BD does not produce such a thing.

@bluesky bhai, this is not THAT tough of an item to produce.

The item is a basic vest/waistcoat with a layer of ARAMID/Kevlar fiber padding (has to be imported, small volume item not made in Bangladesh). These type of winter vests and waistcoats are made in Bangladesh by the millions although not bulletproof. The construction is the same.

Although I do get that it is not a common export from Bangladesh. Very small export volume for us.

Even for companies in larger countries like India, these are not high volume items.

Hypersensitive Nationalism ?
This is not hypersensivite nationalism. This protest is not coming from Bangladesh govt. but BGMEA, the conglomerate of Bangladesh's garments manufacturer. Any negative consequence from this negative portrayal of Made in Bangladesh garments product will affect them directly. So they have a right to protest slandering their product and give factual information.
There is no hypersensitivity here.

If you let every two bit idiot say non-factual things about your country (including Sanghi idiots like Mota bhai i.e. Amit Shah) then you set a bad example. Things like this must be countered and quickly put on notice.

That way they know not to repeat this garbage.

At the end of the day, "Bangladesh" is a commercial brand. There are positive things about that brand too, which we have not cared for so far. And we should. We should protect that brand like any company protects theirs.
You are right. Many people here are commenting like 'who cares?' or thinking it is an overreaction. They are not gasping all the damaging consequences this type of negative jokes can bring. There is a cut throat competition among the Garments manufacturing countries to capture the Western market now a days. In such environment, the worst thing could happen to our garments export is to allow our products to become an object of ridiculement. Image and perception is everything in such hypercompetitive market. Netflix movies are watched by millions around the world. Even if one million buyers in the West choose to avoid 'Made in Bangladesh' tag under the influence of this movie's ridiculement, we will loose tens of millions of Dollar worth of market. So this thing is not a small affair. It is absolutely correct that, BGMEA protested this negative portrayal of it's products, so that it does not happen again and become an accepted norm.

True true , but if one joke can ruin a whole country's economy then that country probably needs to diversify it's economy to greater lengths.

Remember when the West sh*tted on Japanese automobiles ? Look at where Japanese automobiles are at now.

For the time being buddy rmg is the back bone of Bangladesh, you take away the back bone and Bangladesh will not have anything to stand on to diversify.

China's relied heavily on rmg to diversify.
