BGB-BSF celebrate Holi along border

Enemy of my enemy!

That's what I am saying.

Those who were helping the genocide are your "Enemy of my enemy!".

Those who helped you at the most critical time in history are the "enemy".

Something is sure messed up somewhere.

Pre 71 China and Pakistan was the enemy, now India IS the enemy. Time changes many things, now China is our friend, simply because they are one of our largest trading partners, suppliers to our military and have no outstanding issues with us etc...India on the other hand still occupies our lands, have issues with water sharing etc...Indians tend to be arrogant, rude, and generally patronizing towards their neighbors (especially when Indians expect us to be forever grateful to them for helping us during the independence struggle).

Look Bangladesh is an independent nation (not part of the Indian sphere of influence as some Indians want), and as a sovereign country it has a right to its own foreign policy, whether india likes it or not. The current Bangladeshi government is very pro Indian, and came to power because the majority of the people were feed-up with corruption, but now this government is very unpopular because of ITS corruption and foreign policy etc.

Government don’t always remain in power, policies change, I go to Dhaka 3-4 times a year (spend at least half the year there) and the view of the average Bangladeshi towards india seems to be getting really negative (especially the next generation, and they will vote in the governments to come). Previously I use to see more than half the population support india and fewer support Pakistan during sports events, but now the vast majority seem to support Pakistan, (like in the recent semi in Dhaka).

So this that’s my observation of how it is like it or not.

There will be issues between any two neighbors. I don't think there is any issue between India and Bangladesh that should result in the kind of hatred that we are seeing.

At least some of it is simply because India is too big and your politicians and others find it easy to bash India to get votes and organize people.

Its mainly a political game. People's attitudes change when the country's policies change.

Frankly, by being hostile to India you are causing more loss to yourself. The choice is your's to make.

Now regarding the part:

especially when Indians expect us to be forever grateful to them for helping us during the independence struggle

We want you to recognize the sacrifice this country made during those tumultuous times, not be "forever grateful".

When even that doesn't happen, people get angry.

Sorry Vinod, but if someone was occupying your land you’d be angry too. Try to see it from our point; we signed many agreements with regards land and water issues, which india has not lived up-to.

“People's attitudes change when the country's policies change”, if that was the case please explain when we have such a pro-india government in power, view of india and Indians are getting worse?

Your right, “India is too big” in the eyes of many Bangladeshi’s , and there is a preserved threat. But insensitive “big brother” attitude and arrogant comments from sections of Indian diplomatic corp. and politicians etc don’t help.

I am all for friendly relations with all our neighbors as long as it does not infringe on our sovereignty.

Regrading trade relation, while China indeed is the country from where largest share of BD import comes, but India is right there at second place and not so far behind.

Would you please point out to me which land of yours is India occupying?

I hope you know the rather amusing history of those 'occupied enclaves' and the recent development as well!

Also the chitmahals, as they are called colloquially, are(were!) scattered through both the countries, India isn't exclusively at fault here!

india signs agreements in 1974, and we are still waiting for it to be adhered to and it’s not your fault? So what you’re saying, don’t make agreements with india and expect them to implement it?

The agreement was to exchange the enclaves without any fixed time frame, now as both the countries has decided to exchange it at last, I presume you would acknowledge 30 years are not too late considering so many people's lives were at stake. Also India did gave you access to 3 Bigha corridor since 90s.

.
Right we sign an agreement and wait 36-37 years, and then we sign another “no fixed term” agreement and wait how long for the next “no fixed term” agreement. So now you see why people in Bangladesh have no trust in india. oh the "Tin Bigha Corridor" a strip of land 1500 square meters was not given, it was leased.

I hope you are not a West Bengali migrant to Bangladesh as not many of them went to East Pakistan, it is never wise to uproot people off their ancestral land, I'd say wait another 100 years if it takes that much time to convince those people to relocate to alien places.

Yeah it was leased, but you got the drift.

Na I'm half Dutch n half Bangladeshi, so yea we'll wait another 100 years if thats how long it takes, and the hatred and mistrust towards india and indian will continue.
