Being Muslim in China: China's Hui Muslim, the largest Muslim group in China

.
Have to say that Hui Muslims and Han Chinese are the same, you can have a good friend for years without knowing he or she is a Hui.

Xinjiang has a lot of Hui people, I remember in 2009 after Urumqi riot, in Beijing one Hui Muslim girl in my school went to the school office and refused to sit in the same classroom with Uighur students, that shocked me of how tense the relations between Huis and Uighurs in Xinjiang, but that was 10 years ago, I learned the things are much better now between them.

Well, my professor friend just returned from China - it is very clear every moslem is afraid of the intimidation by the state. In all the years he has been going there, this time, he noted it is very clear based on how fearful people are.

While the govt is putting a spin on it; the truth is with this new leadership, they are hell bent on destroying identity of religion by a communist party as a single god.

Who is your professor and where did he go in China? I m Chinese and in China, don't pretend how well you know China based on something that was told by "friends" who no one can verify whether they exist or not.

Your friend told you that we Chinese believe the communist party is like a God? OK, now we know how reliable this friend is.

why dont you stop the communist mentality first? This was never the case before. Only with the new commies it has gotten out of hand with subjugation.

I've met the Hui on my travels. Lovely folk, good Muslims and crazy patriotic about China.
I think being racially and culturally similar to the Han has helped them a great deal.
Yes, No other ethnic minorities have ever wielded such a strong influence in China than Hui, Hui warlords used to control the western half of Chna, Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Ninxia, the current Dalai Lama was held for ransom by Hui warlords in Qinghai province when he was chosen as the reincarnation of the deseaed former Dalai when he was a child.

Hui people are very patriotic, they never wanted to have a separate state, many Chinese war heros during world war2 agaisnt Japanese were Hui generals. Hui regiments are famous for their valor and bravery during the Chinese Japanese war, hundreds of thousands of them were martyred but you rarely see them surrender to the Japanese.

Here are some Hui celebrities in China

Yes. Hui are good people and they are lucky to look similar to Hans. But even now they are feeling the pressure of the communist party. If you are in Xinjiang, good luck - it is worse for them with govt minders and even now one of the tactics they use in detention is sleep depreviation and then sounding the call of prayers to see if you will get up to pray.

Never before in the history of china under the communist party it was like this; but under this new leadership, it is all hell bent on destruction of any form of religious worship apart from the communist party.
