The bilateral trade between China and Pakistan was $2.34 billion in 2007 whereas now its closer to $12 billion and is prospected to increase to $15 billion in 2015. We got market access to the Chinese market especially in the textile and knitwear sector while got cheaply sourced imports from China due to reduced tariffs between the two.

Japan and US are not interested in the project, India doesn't have the capability, so there's no question on joint venture. Besides, there's no concrete proposal for the project apart from the Chinese one, so that keeps us with only one option to go with China. And for our own reasons, we need to have this project completed as soon as possible!

As far as I know apart from China only Netherlands has proposed to build the sea port but the proposal is not that concrete as the Chinese one.

I guess they want to inaugurate the project next year by the Chinese premier, a number of projects will be inaugurated to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sino-Bangla reations next year. Let's see what happens.
