Rawalpindi: Beggars in Pakistan are reportedly using mobile phones to acquire hefty alms in the name of religion.

As a matter of routine, they reportedly send messages asking for a credit of Rs 10-100, offering in return a place in paradise.

Muhammad Usman, a businessman, said that he received almost 10 messages a day from a beggar.

One message reads, "I am a poor man and my daughter is admitted to hospital. If you have faith in one God, please send me a credit of at least Rs 10. God may reward you and take you out of all troubles," the Daily Times quoted Usman, as saying.

Another mobile user said money should not be given to unknown senders of messages, as this was no way to beg. These message senders exploited the people's faith and mobile users should be aware of the situation.

"Customers often complain of unknown messages calling for money. The beggars misused credit sharing facility on mobile phones," said Muhammad Rajid, a PCO owner.


I take it as a compliment what do you guys think....??? . We have Modern and technology savvy beggars......

Beggin is a big business in Pakistan, it is the same with many other countries all around the world, but particularly severe in South East Asia, this is very bad for our country, most of the people who we see on streets in Pakistan r not disabled they show that they r disabled but they r not, they try to fool other people, i saw a report on Geo some months ago, this topic did ring bells in my head so thought to show my fellow country men the level of this problem in Pakistan.

Their r big big mafia's behind this beggin system/business n its a very well co-ordunated system, i think that GOP shuld take these children away from the streets n fund their education, provide them with a living, till they grow up, most of these childrens r homeless so GOP can really help these needy children of our Country, n also it shuld carry out crack down's on the masterminds of this disgusting business, which really hurts the image of our Country n really frustrates many people on the streets, n bring them to justice.

beside these messages I have also received messages that you have won a certain amount and forward this message to a service number of concerned cell phone company. Be aware that the message you are forwarding contains statement to share your balance. The sad part of story is that cell phone companies are aware of the fact and are not taking any action. I suggest that such message forwarding numbers be blocked on complaint to phone company.

Unless the message is from a Number that looks like an official number...like 333, 100, 222, 123, etc etc u can assume it legimitate otherwise messages from a proper "cell ph number" must ring some bells.....keep ur eyes open dude.

You are absolutely correct it is a big bussiness. There is a big mafia involved behind it. Once i happened to talk with a beggar (ofcourse he agreed to talk coz he just got a guud beating from his boss and i was the one pampering him) he told me that their families and generations are involved in this bussiness. They have boundaries of "area" where a certain family can beg, no else is allowed to beg there. When they marry it would no be surprising that in dowry they give like ok this Boltan area is for the groom or that Saddar area is a gift for my daughter..

they only way i tackle this-dont give a damn to anyone who is physically fit...even if they try to do a make over you can come to know after a few questions that they are mocking it up...

I think those who pick up trash for recycle purposes are the most legitmate people. I couldn't help but give money to a little afghani kid which i happen to meet at a very night picking up trash in his big bag.

They work to earn living. They are the only worthy ones.

As far as I am concerned, it is easy to tell who is a legitimate beggar and who is capable of doing something productive with their life. Once at an excursion to some town, I forgot which one it was, but in a small town, there was a really old frail man who came to us begging for some money for food. He looked older than my grandad at the time and it tore my heart to see him begging like that. As he was begging, one of the lenses of his spectacles fell onto the road. My dad's friend gave him 50 rupees, and told him to fix his glasses and have some dinner. This was during the mid 90s, so 50 rupees went a long way in that time.

That is the problem that these beggars have developed various ways and means to trick people. One is so disturbed to see these beggars..they hurt your emotion right the moment you see them, this causes the legimitae people who are actually poor and needy from getting some money. We should look for these kinda people. If i found a one who is just trying to screw around he is going to get a guud scolding from my side that is for sure. But be careful you dont want to get the "bud-dua" of a real poor guy who may b actually in need.
