Bashir (Sudan): A military base on the Red Sea, SU-35, SU-30 and S-300

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said he had discussed setting up a military base on the Red Sea with the president of Russia and his defense minister, adding that he had asked to provide his country with Russian defensive weapons.

Bashir responded to Sputnik's question about whether he had discussed the establishment of a military base on the Red Sea with President Vladimir Putin, saying "yes, first with the Russian president and then with Defense Minister (Sergei Schweigau), This is not an agreement but an "understanding now, God willing."

"We want to develop military cooperation from an attaché to an adviser, and we have a program to fully modernize the armed forces because we have emerged from many problems and wars, so the armed forces need to organise and modernize, and all our equipments are Russian; therefore we need advisers in this area."

"When we use the equipments, of course, we need trainers and advisers. The Red Sea is a very important and very vital corridor, and for us it is an entrance to Sudan. A vulnerability for Sudan, a security threat to our coast, is a dangerous fact for the country," he said. We need strong protection so that they do not suffocate us. We must do anything for that. "

Russian weapons

Bashir also revealed that he had asked for SU-30 and SU-35 fighter jets from Russia to defend his country, adding that their were no objections to the S-300 air defense system's request.

He added: "We asked Sukhoi 30 because it covers our Sudanese airspace, as we asked Su-35. We have no intention to launch an external aggression, what we want is to defend our country."

Bashir said that he also asked for patrol boats, missile boats and minesweepers, "because it is possible that any party can come at any time, and even if it claims allegations that it has mined the Sudanese territorial waters, it would be an economic disaster for us," noting that the presence of minesweepers is important from the point of safety, to reassure other vessels using Sudanese ports with the possession of mine clearance capabilities.

The Sudanese president said he did not go into the details with the Russian leaders. "But we definitely need radars and complete missile systems," he said, answering a question about the S-300 system's demand. "What is objectionable, we can ask for it."

Bashir spoke during his talks in Sochi with the Russian leadership on Thursday, the need for his country to protect against "hostile American actions."

Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour told reporters later that "the talk about protection came in the context of the US threatening decision to stop the export of gold, which represents the primary export of Sudan."

Yes it is a bit confusing..he might have mixed everything in past, present and future tense.. but I still believe that Sudan will get what it wants/needs from Russia..the SD airforce will become very potent with the mix of Mig-29s (upgrade scheduled for 2018) with SU-30s (might come before the SU-35 due to availability), and the S-300 system, be it the PMU-2 or Antey.. rumours go about Pantsir and Buk or Tor for short and medium range..Navy missile boats, patrol boats and minesweeper are an urgent need..a soviet base for protection!? this is a strategic move to balance out the US presence in and around the Red Sea, most likely backed by both Russia and China, the only two major powers present in Sudan..Still Sudan will continue dealing with US normally.. this is more of a precaution and proactive move against any Western mischiefs directed against Sudan.. You know what role "Gold" plays in the global economy!), not only that.. Sudan has apparently the biggest Copper world reserves.. (Copper is used in almost everything you can think of..) and much more, with some Oil and Gas too..lol:

The after-effects of something like that could hurt Egypt in the long run in the most terrible way, and for decades to come because of the way these people can suddenly become fecal vermin (and I'm not talking specifically about the Sudanese, I'm speaking in general) and with the way the southern border is so porous, you could see a vengeful form of Virminical Cretinism take shape and infiltrate from the south and cause decades of evil. That's the last thing we need with the way we currently have to subdue the western border and Sinai.

BTW, are they really considering taking Egypt's share of the Nile? You know a lot of people will gaggle out a bunch of gargle and talk about things like that but in the end, there is diplomacy at work and that's what matters the most. If the agreements that are made politically & diplomatically are violated, that becomes a different matter and I don't think the gargle of a few disgruntled individuals will matter much in the grand scheme of things.

What's definitely a huge concern is this possible Sudan/Ethiopia military cooperation. If indeed the dam issue becomes a major problem, it looks like Sudan will be in a tough position of choosing sides.

Well, Eritrea is basically in line with Saudiya, the UAE and Egypt along with Russia. Somalia is more likely to lean that way. That leaves Djibouti. Then we'll have to see which way Kenya, leans, if it favors the Sudan/Ethiopia axis or stays neutral. Egypt has strengthened its relationship with Kenya as of late but something tells me it will side with the closer neighbor. What's somewhat intriguing is how the US' role is diminishing in all of this.

These are not the majority Sudanese people who are the closest to Egypt..most Sudanese consider Egyptians as brothers.. different Opinions exist on every subject between any two countries..I do not believe that the official Sudanese stance relates to these opinions about the Ethiopian Dam or the Nile.. Egypt is no easy country to play games with.. I hope you are aware of that.. furthermore, Sudan is just getting out from the toughest sanctions ever imposed on any one country and it seeks development and economical recovery..like everyone in the region..There is also the fact that if the Dam was very harmful to Egypt, you won't find other countries than some Western ones supporting it.. like China for example, or Russia in this case of Sudan.. since both have much more interests with Egypt than with Ethiopia or Sudan.. Egypt wants the best guarantees for its Nile water share and that is understandable.. the conflict is with Ethiopia not Sudan who might lose half of its population and land in case the Nahda Dam goes bad, either structurally or by another accident..

Ethiopia is planning to build 4 more Dams on the Blue Nile , your water will be controlled by Ethiopian Dams at the end.

Sudan is ruled by the MB and they follow whatever Turkey and Qatar dictates them , these people only seek the destruction of Egypt using any means , thats why Sudan supports Ethiopian Dam more than Ethiopians themselves.

Weapons will not help you when you run out of water , Egyptians will end up slaughtering each other , this is a dangerous matter and should not be neglected .

Sudan already choose Ethiopian side on this issue , Egypt is alone in this matter and the so called negotiations were used by Ethiopia in order to give them time to build the dam .

At the end negotiations failed miserably and both Sudan and Ethiopia have violated the signed agreement with Egypt by rejecting the independent panel final results regarding the effects of Ethiopian Dam .

These negotiations remind me of the Palestinian/Israel negotiation , the only way to ensure your rights is by using military power other than that Egypt will cease to exist when it loses share of water nile , a country already under water level poverty line .

They played a sneaky game for sure and Egypt has been super patient about this whole affair. If it comes down to taking action, there are a lot of variables that are in Egypt's favor, its just the longevity of the aftermath that will need to be dealt with. But Sudan will be a critical player, no question. I wouldn't worry about any other dams or about any major effects from this one. It will be taken care of and Sudan will chose the right side to support in the long run.

I seriously doubt we need to worry about the military might of these countries because unlike Israel they are pretty much completely handicapped, they have neither quality or quantity on their side. if the Egyptian army was mobilized both Sudan/South Sudan and Ethopia would get completely steam rolled in the march south. The only group that could possibly get in the way would be the U.N and I doubt president Trump would betray Egypt by not using veto in the Security Council especially since we are a incredibly valuable ally.
