Bangladesh's Summit eyes Bhutan power production

The whole news is about a Bangladeshi company setting us a infrastructure project in Bhutan. Good on them. Potential to buy electricity from Bhutan is a side issue yet it gets hindutva trolls angry.....

India should pay for transit. BAL days are numbered so free lunch going to end soon.
Are you kidding me? Bhutan is already a power surplus country. Which country do you think supported the latest mega dam?

And you are way off the mark if you are calling me Hindutva. It just takes some common sense and not ideologial mumbo-jumbo to criticize BD posters's and BNP's positions on transit to India. Btw India is not asking for free transit.

Bringing India to knees is just your day dreaming. :cheesy:

Since Pakistan time India has been trying hard to bring us to our knees, but without a success. It has cut off almost all the sources of water since those days. But, even with all these Indian traps BD has developed an agriculture that has almost trebled after 1971. Indian bullying and before that Pakistani attitude have made us nationalists.

This force of nationalism taught us to work hard. Nearly seven million people are working overseas, all our women are contributing to the economy. We are building a robust economy that we can continue even without an infusion of made-in-India goods and contribution from India.

But, on the contrary India cannot survive without getting all those transit connections via Bangladesh. BD has favoured India by allowing limited passage of Indian goods through our system. It has even built Ashuganj river port to facilitate Indian goods/power plant machines to Tripura. India needs our help without which India willl be bifurcated into two.

Only as a reciprocacy, India should allow power supply from Nepal and Bhutan through its tiny corridor. Not only this, India should heed to positive proposals from BD that BD and India jointly build hydropower plants in those two countries and share the benefits. But, India wants to make itself suffer with less power but detates the prospect of a developed BD. It will not allow BD to join a development venture with the big DADA.

Change your country flag Bombay Dude. Believe me you wont survive long regardless the number of account that you open.

Bhutan 100% belongs to India???

Either India is building/has built most of the hydel power plants in Bhutan or is a major investor, so without Indian nod of affirmity, Bangladeshi cheerleaders can dream on.

Then how india survived for 65 years without any transit. :cheesy: Transit is just for saving some money, North-East already have many airports and right now railway is constructing third railway route through Siliguri and replacing all metre gauge railway lines with broad gauge.

We know what those Siligury routes are. This area is mountainou, not easy to build even a workable motor road. Long distance is what is making Indian goods to NE very expensive, and airports have nothing to do with goods transport. Your airports must also be in such a poor shape that the Bhutanese govt wants to use our northern airports for its international flights because Bhutan is very windy.

Better India permits self-rule in the NE. This is what ULFA and other Assamese want that would allow them to do direct trade with Bangladesh. This is why, India needs BD transit at any cost. The alternative is the seccession of NE that will surly jump onto BD lap. So, India should be very nice to the small BD country.

But roads and railway lines both exists in that area. The route is expensive but still its not do or die situation to get transit from Bangladesh. Since Bangladesh is not a part of India, expecting everything from the transit is not a great idea.

North-East have mainly greenfield airports.

Better India permits self-rule in the NE.

Our federal setup already give lots of self-rule to states. didn't you see what Mamta Banerjee did to Teesta deal. ;)

1.Total bakwas. Summit, more than any others, is responsible for the current disarray in the power sector. They are a bunch of unscrupulous crooks who are bleeding people with high tariff just to earn fat profit. Ruini-Sagar had documented this for which they had to loose life.

2. India will never allow Bhutan's or Nepal's power to reach BD because, firstly she desires slow development in BD. India herself is badly short of power. If ever India becomes self-sufficient to allow Bhutan - Nepal power into BD, then India would impose a MEP (minimum export price) so that she gets a good chunk of profit.

Technology my friend has changed a lot. We not only have Roads but also Rail lines. From where do you think most of the goods are going?? Why Indian govt is not in a hurry to get a corridor? I dont see PM making comments on corridor every second day. The issue is only raised when there is a meeting between BD-India officials. You can understand how irr (relevant) BD corridor is.

Long distance is what is making Indian goods to NE very expensive, and airports have nothing to do with goods transport.

Check the prices in NE with respect to rest of India and tell me which product is very expensive.

Airports have everything to do with transport.

Your airports must also be in such a poor shape that the Bhutanese govt wants to use our northern airports for its international flights because Bhutan is very windy.

These are Indian Airports not BD Airports. These are much developed than what you can imagine.

Better India permits self-rule in the NE.

There is self rule in every Indian state. State govt are proof of that.

This is what ULFA and other Assamese want that would allow them to do direct trade with Bangladesh.

Last time I heard, they were killing BD people. Apart from cheap clothes, BD has nothing to offer.
This is why, India needs BD transit at any cost.

Explained earlier. We want corridor at reasonable cost.

The alternative is the seccession of NE that will surly jump onto BD lap. So, India should be very nice to the small BD country.

Dude if India stats supporting freedom Movement in BD, Only God can help you. Be nice to India or you wont exist for a long time. Thats why even BNP has changed its policy.

Bhutan imposes high duty on Bangladeshi agro-based items
........................

Exporters said that the decision of imposing high duty might have been taken due to the pressure of exporters from some beneficiary countries mainly India to stop exports of Bangladeshi products to Bhutan.

Yes, it is India and Indian mindset that have pressured a small Bhutan to accept Indian bullying and forced them to buy India's 3rd rate exports. If BD goods can compete in Bhutan under a level playing field, then there is no way Indian goods can compete in our NE neighbourhood as some posters here claim.

So, open transit route for our electricity to come from Nepal and open your market for our goods. If you keep on putting barricades in no time you will see your textile industries migrate to BD. Bhutanese electricity will enable us to produce high quality goods in our north which, Indians like or not, we will dump into India.

I read in this forum that lots of "so called 3rd rate" Indian products are available in Bangladesh. Bangladesh should first compete with it and defeat Indian products from its market and then expand the fight to other markets.

So you want to keep gun on our shoulder and shoot us too? Business benefits both countries. It can never be one way. For example if you want to dump your clothes and other exports in India then you have to allow India to dump its buses, cars and other products in Bangladesh. If you want cheap and easy transit through India for Nepal & Bhutan then you also have to offer us a transit to NE. Its always Give and Take.

Oh! Come on. Don't falsify the reality. Mamata's party was a part of Union Coalition Govt in Delhi. So, MMS could not go against her. It is not Mamata's non-compliance as the Chief Minister of Bengal that undid the Teesta Treaty. However, I believe every thing was pre-planned. India did not want to give Teesta water and wanted to get more concessions from BD on other bi-lateral matters. You see the Indians are fond of dis-respecting their own promises.

Done due to India imposing MEP - minimum export price on any item passing through its territory. Whenever there is a high demand of any item in BD or whenever Indian traders face competition from Bhutan / Nepal MEP is imposed.
