No it has nothing do with that. This descision was made in the early 70's. Countries with population greater that 65m i think with low income could self select how to be categorised. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were all low income countries. India and Pakistan self selected not to be categorised as low income country whilst Bangladesh did not. Subsequently these categorisation was mapped to development based categorisation and LIC became LDC. India and pakistan became part of the developing group. That is the actual history.

India and pakistan were not in a better place than BD at any time.
