Bangladesh votes against Pakistan in WTO

I think fair play should have been applied... You want your business to do good then increase the quality and competitiveness & not by blocking somebody else from selling. Whether it is India or Bangladesh who is blocking the entry, it is not a fair practise. Allow everyone to supply & let the best product win.
Ofcourse what I said may not make much business sense, but why should ruthlessness be the main criteria in business & why not live & let live policy?

Dude this basic idea of preferential access to Pakistani goods is against Trade Norms..Bangladesh goods are cheaper and relatively equal in quality..thats why they have captured the EU market. Now EU wants to help Pakistan by blocking out the goods from BD/India and 'gifting' that market to Pakistan.

How can blocking such an unfair move which will directly impact the livelihood of millions of BD people said to be unfair on BD's part ?

Their Govt is only doing its duty of protecting BD interests. I'd say a job well done.

.
I salute the Bangladeshis who were intent on looking after their own interests unlike our puppet MMS who forsake the opposition even though it will have a huge impact on the Indian garment industry.

Well done Bangladeshis

Bhai don`t salute too much.. now sami & munshi will come & accuse India for making pressure to their loose govt. for voting against pak. & of course they`ll provide some India poverty links for their fact support....

.
A dissapointment considering we have been helping their army a lot and sending post-flood assistance too!

Bangladesh thwarts EU help for Pakistan at WTO

Published: November 9, 2011
BRUSSELS: Bangladesh has thwarted a European attempt to grant beneficial import conditions to Pakistani textile makers as an aid measure following Pakistan’s devastating floods last year, diplomats said on Tuesday.
Europe and Pakistan had expected a long-announced plan for trade preferences for Pakistani textile makers to be approved during a meeting of trade diplomats in Geneva on Monday, but a Bangladeshi complaint effectively halted it.
“A meeting took place yesterday in Geneva. Bangladesh made a short statement saying that they have some concerns,” said a diplomat in Brussels who is familiar with the talks.
Another said Bangladesh had concerns about the impact of the European measures, which would make it easier for Pakistan to export textiles to Europe. Bangladesh competes with Pakistan for textiles sales to the European market.
The two year cut in tariffs offered by the EU would be a small boost for Pakistan’s exporters.
World Trade Organization rules say the same deal must be offered to all trade partners, so by making an exception for Pakistan, the EU needs to get all WTO members on side and any one country can block the deal.
Until recently India, Pakistan’s neighbour and rival, had objected to the European plan, effectively vetoing it. But as tensions between the two traditional South Asian enemies have eased, India signalled it no longer opposed the plan.

bangladesh should have vote in support of pakistan, it was a chance to have a more positive atmosphere in south asian politic's which is badly needed, let's bygones be bygones

1. You are saying this because u have not personally suffered..

2. BD leaders are not insane they look for their national interest first and not go by as US dictates them like India have supported pakistan.

3. It is the BD which will be most affected and there will be job loss in BD because of concession to pak.

Khatti chousney..................................

We expected that from Sheikh Hasina.....

What they done is in their National interest and every nation would do the same in those conditions. Keep in mind that no person would set his house on fire because some one else want them to burn it, unless he can get benefit out of it or he is a saint but that another story

Well-done Bangla Desh!!

This will actually help Bangladesh stave off this attack on their export basket. In fact this whole idea of textile duty waivers by the EU was a confused response to the need to make any positive gesture when there could be nothing else (specially no/negligible donations in response to the floods). The waiver itself would have helped only the non-tax paying businesses owned by the elites of Pakistan and actually not the normal person on the ground who is suffering. If Pakistan army and governmnt would have been that serious on helping the poor then they would not have been buying F-16s when the nation was actually bearing the brunt of the flood. On top of that, why should Bangladesh agree to lose its competitive edge specially over a 2 year period?

Bangladesh is actually clearly looking more for in its national interest than any other country in South Asia right now. Good for their country. I wish that the Indians also get an equal clarity of purpose to make decisions which are in the overall national interest.

Indian friends...it looks very much odd though...but you guys are so much excited to support the BD decision to block pakistan move...Do nt you guys think it is the responsibilty of BD member to justify the rationality behind this move....How does it matter to Indian friends wheather BD suuport or goes against Pakistan......We have to really come out of this anti pakistan mood ....sometimes it is really boaring that you guys start advocating a point without knowing wheather it is needed to be justified...

I have seen that couple of guys are simply justifying BD deciscion....This is really weird...
